Chandramouleeswarar Temple, Harichandrapuram, Patteeswaram, Thanjavur
Chandramouleeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Harichandrapuram Village near Patteeswaram in Kumbakonam Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Chandramouleeswarar and Mother is called as Soundaravalli. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns had a mention about this Temple. Harichandrapuram is said to be a Chandra Dosham Nivarthi Sthalam.



Legends
Legend has it that Lord Chandran (planet moon) performed special pujas and offered his sincere prayers to the Lord here to relieve him of a curse. Lord Chandran and Harichandra Maharaja had worshipped Lord Shiva here.



The Temple
This is a small east facing Temple. Presiding Deity is called as Chandramouleeswarar and is facing east. Lord is a Swayambhu Moorthy. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Dakshinamoorthy is the only Koshta idol located in the sanctum wall. Mother is called as Soundaravalli. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There are shrines for Suryan, Chandran, Bhairavar, Vinayaga, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Maha Lakshmi, five Lingams and Maha Kaliyamman in the Temple premises.



Parkulam:
There is a pond called Parkulam can be found opposite to the Temple. It was believed that there was a Temple near to this Pond in ancient times. This lost Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns had a mention about this Temple.

விரிச்சங்கை எரிக்கொண்டு அங்கு ஆடும் வேடர்
வீழிமிழலையே மேவினாரே.

பொடி ஏறு மேனியராய்ப் பூதம் சூழப்
புறம்பயம் நம் ஊரென்று போயினாரே.

The Temple is located at about 1.5 Kms from Cholanmaligai, 1.5 Kms from Patteeswaram, 2 Kms from Pazhayarai, 2.5 Kms from Darasuram, 2.5 Kms from Darasuram Railway Station, 5 Kms from Thiruvalanchuzhi, 7 Kms from Swamimalai, 7 Kms from Kumbakonam, 35 Kms from Thanjavur and 93 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated on Kumbakonam to Patteeswaram Route.
