Dharmalingeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Nanganallur, a well-known locality in Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Dharmalingeswarar / Dhanmeesar and Mother is called as Sarvamangalambigai. This Temple is called as Semponkoil Dhanmeesar in ancient times. The Temple is around 1000 years old.




History

The Temple
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram and there is a recently constructed Rajagopuram on the south side. Dwajasthambam, Palipeedam and Nandhi are immediately after the Rajagopuram. The Sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Arthamandapam and Mahamandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Dharmalingeswarar / Dhanmeesar. Presiding Deity is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam.



Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Mahavishnu, Brahma and Durgai are the niche images located around the sanctum walls. A Fragment of old pillar is erected in front of the Sanctum. This is the only portion remaining from the 1000 years old Temple. Rest of the old structures has been replaced with latest brick and concrete structure. Mother is called as Sarvamangalambigai. Mother is housed in a separate shrine facing south.




There are shrines of Naalvar, Utsava Idols, Bhairava, Navagrahas and Anjaneya in the inner courtyard. There are shrines of Agoraveerabhathirar, Dhanmeesa Vinayagar, Arasamara Vinayagar with Nagars and Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli and Devasena (facing west) in the outer courtyard.

The temple remains open from 06.30 AM to 12.30 PM and 7.00 PM to 8.30 PM.
Festivals
Annual Brahmotsavam during Panguni, Vaarshika Pavitrotsavam during Avani Arudra Day, Chandi Homam during Sarada Navaratri, four Kala Abhishekam and Pooja on Mahasivarathri, Sankabishekam on a Karthikai Somavaram, Vaikasi Visakam & Skanda Shashti celebrations for Subramanya, Hanumanth Jayanthi and Vinayaka Chaturthi are the festivals celebrated here. Regular Poojas are being performed on Pradosham day, Monthly Shivaratri, Monthly second Sunday (Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam), Sankatahara Chaturthi day, Six Natarajar Abhishekam days (annually), Pournami days (Abhishekam for Mother), Sukhla Shashti days (Abhishekam for Subramanya), Krishna Ashtami days (Abhishekam for Veerabhadra and Bhairava), First Sundays of the Month (Rahukala Abhishekam for Durga), Third Thursday of the month (Sahasranamarchana for Dakshinamurthy) are also conducted in this temple.
