Thiruloganathar Temple, Irumbuthalai, Thanjavur
Thiruloganathar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Irumbuthalai Village near Thirukarugavur in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Thiruloganathar and Mother is called as Thiruloganayagi. The place was called as Manukula Soolamani Chathurvedhimangalam during ancient times. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns had a mention about this Temple.



Legends
It is believed that Goddess Mahalakshmi worshipped Lord Shiva and got relieved of his curse.


The Temple
The Temple is east facing but the entrance arch is situated on the southern side. The entrance arch has a stucco image of Ammaiappar. Presiding Deity is called as Thiruloganathar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam and is facing east. Shrines of Vinayaga and Muruga can be found at the entrance of sanctum. Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu and Durga are the Koshta Idols located around the sanctum walls.


Mother is called as Thiruloganayagi. She is housed in separate south facing shrine. She is with four hands. Two of her hands holds lotus flowers and other two hands are showing Varada and Hastha Postures. Mother Shrine is situated in the Mandapam right opposite to the sanctum. There is no Navagraha Shrine in this Temple.


There are Idols of Saneeswaran, Tirunavukkarasar, Sambandar, Bhairava and Surya in the Mandapam in the Mother shrine. Also, there is a Lingam with his consort can be found in the same Mandapam. This Lingam is facing east. Sthala Vriksham is Vilva tree. There is an inscription dated to 10th regnal year of Rajendra Chola I informs about the renovations done to this Temple.

The Temple remains open from 08.00 AM to 09.00 AM and 06.00 PM to 08.00 PM.
Literary Mention
The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Appar had a mention about this Temple. The Temple is mentioned in 6th Thirumurai in 51st Patikam in 6th Song.
