Ekambaranathar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Thiruvegampet Village in Sivaganga District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Ekambaranathar / Ekambareswarar and Mother is called as Snehavalli. The place was called as Thiruvekambam in ancient times. This place was named after the famous Kanchipuram Ekambaranathar Temple. Hence the place is also called as Dakshina Kanchipuram. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns had a mention about this Temple.
Legends
It is believed that Demon King Ravana installed the Linga and worshipped Lord Shiva here.
History
The Temple is believed to be 700 years old and the temple has been extensively renovated in the 16th Century AD.
The Temple
Presiding Deity is called as Ekambaranathar / Ekambareswarar and Mother is called as Snehavalli. There is a shrine for Kubera Ganapathy in the Temple premises. There is a Theertham called Agastya Theertham in the eastern side of the Temple. There is a big Theppa Kulam at the backside of the Temple. Inscriptions belonging to Pandyas and other later period kings informs that the place was called as Kaanapper kutraithai Serntha Thiruvekambam.
Inscriptions belonging to Maravarman Sundara Pandiyan I, Maravarman Sundara Pandiyan II, Sadaiya Varman Vikrama Pandiyan I and Sadaiya Varman Veera Pandiyan I were found in this Temple. Presiding Deity of the Temple was called as Ekambamudaiya Nayanar / Thiruvekambamudaiya Thambiranar / Sundara Pandiya Eswaramudaiyar in these inscriptions.

The Temple remains open from 06.00 AM to 11.00 AM and 04.00 PM to 07.30 PM.
Festivals
Chithirai, Ani Brahmotsavam, Navaratri, Karthigai Deepam and Panguni Uthiram are the festivals celebrated in this Temple.
Literary Mention
The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Appar had a mention about this Temple. The Temple is mentioned in 6th Thirumurai in 70th Patikam in 4th Song.
