Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Pudupet, Chennai
Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Pudupet, well-known locality near Egmore in Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Sundareswarar and Mother is called as Meenakshi. The Temple is situated on the banks of Vriddha Ksheera River, now called as Koovam.



History
This temple is over 250 years old and a private one belonging to Vishwa Brahmin community.


The Temple
The Temple is facing east with three tiered Rajagopuram. Presiding Deity is called as Sundareswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Meenakshi. She is housed in a separate shrine and is facing south. She is in standing posture. There are shrines for Navagrahas, Durga, Ganesha, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Vaishnavi and Mahalakshmi in the Temple premises. A speciality of this temple is Goddess Durga facing east which may not be seen in any temples. 



Festivals
Special pujas were done round the year during Navaratri, Panguni Uthiram, Varalakshmi fasting and on all full moon days.

The Temple is located at about 100 meters from Pudupet Chitra Theatre Bus Stop, 750 meters from Pudupet Bus Stop, 1 Km from LIC Building Bus Stop, 2 Kms from Egmore Railway Station, 3 Kms from Egmore Bus Stand, 2.5 Kms from Egmore Metro Station, 4 Kms from Nehru Park Metro Station, 4 Kms from Chennai Central Railway Station, 11 Kms from Koyambedu Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and 18 Kms from Chennai Airport. Meenakshi Amman Temple is located in Chandra Banu Street, Harris Road, Pudupet, Chennai. The temple is near the Komaleeswarar temple inside a lane on the opposite side of the road.
The area around the Komaleeswarar temple is known as Komaleeswaranpet but popularly referred to as Pudupet. Bus 18 series, 11 series, 21 series from Parrys corner stop at LIC Building Bus Stop. The temple is at a walkable distance from this Bus Stop. Bus 27B from CMBT stop at Egmore and White board buses of 22, 23C, 29, 29A, 27D from Egmore stops at Pudupet.
