Selva Vinayagar Temple, Egmore, Chennai
Selva Vinayagar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to
Lord Ganesha located at Egmore, well-known locality of Chennai City in Tamil
Nadu. It was told that the Vinayagar on the south west corner in the inner prakaram
was more than 300 years old and the temple was built latter.
The Temple
The temple is facing east with a Rajagopuram of 5 tiers.
Vinayagar Shrine is immediately after the Rajagopuram since Ganapathy is the
presiding deity. There are shrines for Dakshinamurthy, Vinayagar
(original), Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Durga, Surya,
Naga, Krishnan and Palani Andavar in the Temple premises.
The unique feature of this temple is the bronze utsava
idols of Gajalakshmi, Rishabaroodar (Lord Shiva & Parvathy on Rishaba), Venkatachalapathi,
Hanuman, Arupadaiveedu Arumugar (Replica utsava Idols of Arupadaiveedu temples
of Thiruthani, Thiruparankundram, Swamimalai, Palani, Pazhamudhir Cholai and Thiruchendur
with their consorts) and Nataraja. All are housed in individual shrines.
Temple Opening Time
The Temple remains open from 07.00 AM to 12.00 Noon and 05.30
PM to 08.30 PM.

Nehru Park Metro Station, 1 Km from Egmore Railway Station, 2 Kms from Egmore
Metro Station, 2 Kms from Egmore Bus Stand, 5 Kms from Chennai Central Railway
Station, 10 Kms from Koyambedu Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and 18 Kms from
Chennai Airport. The temple is situated on the Gangu Reddy street.
