Bheemeswarar Temple, Omandhur, Villupuram
Bheemeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Omandhur near Tindivanam Town in Villupuram District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Bheemeswarar and Mother is called as Balambigai / Ksheerambikai. The Temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old.

History
Siru Panattru Padai, forming part of the Sangam literatures of Tamil, mentions this place as part of the Oyma Nadu region ruled by Nalliya Kodan known for his charitable traits. This region was around the present Tindivanam. As per the inscriptions, this temple was built during Chola Emperor Rajaraja-I, period in 11th Century. Renovations were carried out during Vijayanagara Nayak period. There were inscriptions belonged to 15th to 16th century found on Kumudam. One stone inscription of Rajaraja Chola period mentions this place as Ovvur.



In another inscription of the13th century belonging to Raja Narayana Sambuvarayar, the place is noted as Oimanattu Ogandur. The name of the place began from Ovvur, moved to Ogandur and now stands with Omandur. Ramaswamy Reddy was born in Omandur, was the Chief Minister of Madras in 1947 and in his name a super speciality hospital exists in Chennai. During 1954, Omandur Ramaswamy Reddy had done renovations and conducted Kumbabhishekam.

Temple Opening Time
The Temple remains open from 06.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. and from 04.30 p.m. to 08.00 p.m. Mostly evening timings is unpredictable. Devotees are advised to contact before visiting, during evening hours.
Festivals
Besides monthly Pradosha pujas, the temple celebrates Maha Shivrathri in February-March.
Prayers
The Temple is considered as Parihara Sthalam for Wealth, Child Boon and Food. Devotees worship Lord Shiva here to become rich, to get blessed with child and to get cure from all kind of food related problems. For relief from the adverse aspects of planets and serpent planets in particular, devotees light ghee lamps dedicated to the presiding deity Realizing their wishes, devotees perform abishek to Lord and mother and offer vastras.
