Sadaiyar Temple, Thiruchennampoondi – Legends
Curse of a devotee on Lord Shiva:
Pallava King Nandivarman III had no child and later on he was asked to construct a Shiva temple by Brinki Rishi and based on his direction he completed the temple and started doing daily poojas. Later on, he was blessed with a child. Later, a lady from Thiruchennampoondi had no child and she used to offer regular prayers to Lord Siva. She took her neighbors child along with her to the temple regularly.
During one of her visits, some poisonous insect bit the child and it led to child’s death. The lady devotee got annoyed of this incident and she cursed the Lord Siva that “Let this temple be destroyed by water and let all poojas stop, and the insects and snakes of the region become non-venomous”. So, this curse of the true devotee turns out to be true at the later stages.
Shiva Sadaiyappar:
When Lord Siva started his Rutradhandava against Devi, his hair fell down 18 times from his Jadai. Each time, when it fell, Shiva Sadaiyappar was originated from his Jadai.  It is believed that he worshipped Lord Siva in this place.
Koothadi Siddhar:
It is believed that renowned Siddhar Koothadi Siddhar worshipped Lord Shiva of this Temple.
