Rishipuriswarar Temple, Thiruvidaimarudur, Thanjavur
Rishipuriswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thiruvidaimarudur Town in Thiruvidaimarudur Taluk in Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Rishipuriswarar and Mother is called as Gnanambigai. Thiruvidaimarudur is considered as equivalent to Kasi. This Temple is considered as one of temples of Pancha Linga Sthalams of Thiruvidaimarudur. The Temple is situated in the west street of Thiruvidaimarudur Mahalingeswarar Temple.


Legends
Rishipuriswarar:
Rishis Bharadhwaja, Agasthya, Kashyapa, Romesa, Gowthama and Koushika performed penance on Lord Shiva here amidst Vilva Vanam. Lord Shiva along with his consort appeared before them and imparted them with spiritual knowledge (Gnana). Hence, Lord Shiva came to be called as Rishipuriswarar and Mother came to be called as Gnanambigai.
Badragiriyaar & Pattinathar:
It is believed that Badragiriyaar and Pattinathar attained Mukthi by worshipping Lord Shiva of this Temple.
Kanaga Theertham / Kaga Theertham:
It is believed that Kanaga Theertham / Kaga Theertham is said to have originated from the eyes of Lord Shiva. It is believed that a crow attained salvation by taking bath in this Theertham. Hence, the Theertham came to be called as Kaga Theertham.

Pandya King Chitra Keerthi and his wife Suguna took bath in the Theertham on first day of Panguni and worshipped Lord Shiva for Child boon. Lord Shiva granted their wish.
History
It is believed that this temple was in existence even before Mahalingeswarar Temple. Pattinathar, Badragiriyaar, Varaguna Pandya and Vikrama Chola had done extensive renovations to this Temple. The Temple was in dilapidated condition for many years. Finally, the consecration of the temple was done in 4th March 2012 and the temple was restored back to its glory.

The Temple
This is an east facing temple with an entrance arch. Presiding Deity is called as Rishipuriswarar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. A beautiful Nandi can be found facing the sanctum. It is unique to notice that an unidentified liquid is oozing out from the ears of Nandi. Mother is called as Gnanambigai. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There are shrines of Bhairavar and Chandikeswarar in the Temple premises.


There is a shrine for Rishaba Rasi Vinayagar in the south western side of the Temple premises. There is an east facing Murugan Shrine, North facing Maha Lakshmi Shrine and a north facing Kubera Shrine in the temple premises. Sthala Vriksham is Vilwam Tree. Theertham associated with this Temple is Kanaga Theertham / Kaga Theertham.


Temple Opening Time
The Temple remains open from 06.00 am to 10.00 am and 05.00 pm to 08.00 pm.
Festivals
Shivaratri and Monthly Pradoshams are observed here.
Prayers
Worshipping by lighting four lamps in Rishaba Rasi Vinayagar shrine on Fridays will fulfill all your desires. By praying to Lord Kubera, all the debts will be cleared and will be bestowed with wealth. Taking bath in the Kanaga Theertham and worshipping Rishipuriswarar will bestow one with child boon and relief from curses and diseases. By Worshipping Lord Murugan on Tuesdays will provide relieve to diseases. This Temple is considered as Parihara Sthalam for Rishabam, Mithunam and Simmam. Thiruvadhirai and Rohini starrers are advised to worship in this temple on their respective star days. This Temple is also Parihara Sthalam for Kashyapa Godhra, Gowsika Godhra and Bharadhwaja Godhra people.
