Kailasanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kailasapatti, an outskirt of Periyakulam Town in Theni District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Periya Nayagi. The Temple is situated on top of the Hills. The temple could be easily reached through steps or through the road. The temple is situated at 800 metres above sea level. The Temple is also called South Kailash.

History
The hill temple is old and is
believed to be in existence for over 2000 years. The Temple was
believed to be built by Pandya King Maravarman. Also, as per local folklore,
there is another belief that the temple was built by a Chola King.

The temple remains open from 06.00
a.m. to 09.00 a.m. and from 04.00 p.m. to 08.00 p.m.
Festivals
Poornima (Full Moon Day)
Girivalam (circumambulating the hill), Amavasya (New Moon Day) in Aadi month
covering July-August, Karthikai Maha Deepam in October-November and Monthly
Pradoshams are celebrated here.
Prayers
Devotees pray to the presiding
deity seeking wedding and child boon. Devotees perform abishek, Archanas to
Lord and Mother and offer vastras. Circumambulation of the hill on Poornima day
makes devotees healthier.

Kailasanathar Temple arch is situated on the Periyakulam – Theni Main Road. A
tar road leads to the foot hills.
