Aadhi Vaidyanatha Swamy Temple, Mannipallam, Mayiladuthurai
Aadhi Vaidyanatha Swamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Mannipallam Village in Sirkazhi Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Aadhi Vaidyanatha Swamy / Rathnapureeswarar and Mother is called as Thaiyal Nayagi. There are five Vaidyanatha Swamy Temples around Vaitheeswaran Koil called as Pancha Vaidyanatha Kshetrams. This Temple is one among them.
History
Mannipallam Village finds mention in Periyapuranam. The Village had been called as Mannuneerpallam in ancient times. The Temple is believed to be built by Pallavas. The Temple was called as Pallirukkuvelur. It is said the temple hosted several inscriptions, but all were lost. It is believed that this Temple is considered as the first Vaidyanatha Swamy Temple and the present Vaidyanatha Swamy Temple in Vaitheeswaran Koil was built latter. The temple got dilapidated in course of time. Later, a devotee from Coimbatore reconstructed this Temple completely.
The Temple
The Temple is facing towards east with three tiered Rajagopuram. Nandi, Dwajastambam and Balipeedam can be found facing the sanctum. There is a sub shrine of Vinayaga below the Dwajastambam. Presiding Deity is called as Aadhi Vaidyanatha Swamy / Rathnapureeswarar and is east facing. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of tall Lingam. There is another Nandi in front of sanctum facing Lord Shiva. Dvarapalas can be seen guarding the sanctum.
Mother is called as Thaiyal Nayagi. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There is a shrine for Bhagavatha Vinayaga in the temple premises. He is in the pose of writing Mahabharata. This shrine is frequented by students for their academic excellence. There are shrines for Dhanvatri, and Maha Lakshmi in the temple premises.
