Airavatheswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Perunthottam Village near Nangur in Sirkazhi Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Airavatheswarar and Mother is called as Athithulya Gujambigai. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Sundarar and Appar had a mention about this Temple. This Temple is considered as one of the Ekadasa Rudra Kshetrams and Shiva Peedam Temples of Nangur. This Temple is considered as one of the Saptha Vana Temples of Poompuhar and one of the seven temples associated with the family of Lord Shiva.

History
The temple is said to have been in existence from 6th century CE and completely rebuilt in 10th century CE by the Cholas. Lord was mentioned as Jayamkonda Chozhamandalathu Venkundra Kottathu Atheeswara Mudaiyar in the inscriptions available in this temple. This temple is under the administrative control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of Government of Tamil Nadu (HR&CE).

Festivals
The Ekadasa Rudra Kshetrams of Nangur celebrates the
Ekadasa Rishabaruda festival in Rohini star day in the Tamil month of Vaikasi
similar to the Ekadasa Garuda Seva of Thirunangur
Divyadesams. The Ekadasa Rishabaruda festival was celebrated in grand
manner during Chitra Pournami in ancient times and was discontinued in the 20th
century. The ardent devotees of Lord Shiva revived this festival in 2016 and is
now being celebrated every year.
The Lords of the Ekadasa Rudra Kshetrams of Nangur
participates in this festival. Thiru Karthigai & Karthigai Somavaram (Nov-Dec),
Thai Poosam & Pongal (Jan-Feb) and Masi Maha Shivaratri (Feb-Mar) are the
festivals celebrated here. Tamil New Year, English New Year, Amavasya,
Pournami, Pradoshams, Sankatahara Chathurthi, Sashti days and all days in
Margazhi month are also celebrated here.

Prayers
Devotees pray here for mental
peace, to suppress their angry nature and for wealth. Devotees pray to Vathadum
Ganapathy for relief from long pending legal disputes and relief from the
disputes arises in their official works. Unmarried girls light gingelly oil
lamps at Durga shrine on Fridays and Tuesdays at Rahu Kaala for removing
marriage obstacles and marriage boon.

The
temple is located at about 4 Kms from Mangaimadam, 6 Kms from Thiruvengadu, 7
Kms from Nangur, 9 Kms from Thiruvali, 10 Kms from Annankoil, 16 Kms from
Sirkazhi, 16 Kms from Sirkazhi Bus Stand, 17 Kms from Vaitheeswaran Koil, 18
Kms from Vaitheeswaran Koil Railway Station, 19 Kms from Sirkazhi Railway
Station, 31 Kms from Mayiladuthurai and 159 Kms from Trichy Airport. Buses are
available from Sirkazhi and Mayiladuthurai only at specific hours.
Regular buses are available to Annankoil from Sirkazhi. The Temple is situated
on Sirkazhi – Annankoil – Mangaimadam route. Devotees need to travel 4 Kms from
Mangaimadam towards the Bay of Bengal to reach this temple.
