Mouna Swamigal Jeeva Samadhi Temple is a Hindu burial shrine located in Thiruporur Town in Thiruporur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. This Temple houses Jeeva Samadhi of Mouna Swamigal and his disciples Sambanda Moorthy Swamigal, Subramanya Swamigal & Ekambara Swamigal. This Temple is situated close to Chidambaram Swamigal Madam.



History

Mouna Swamigal was born in Thai month on Sadaya Nakshatra in 1872 AD. His birth name was Singaravelan. He was born to their parents after they worshipped Thiruporur Murugan for 15 years. He was very much involved in Shiva Pooja from his infancy. He was interested in painting and reading religious scriptures. He was married at the age of 20 and left the family life for Sanyasa at the age of 22.  It is said that Chidambaram Swamigal appeared before Mouna Swamigal for three times and insisted him to undertake Mouna Viratha. He undertook this Viratha for 27 years. He attained Jeeva Samadhi on 15 January 1926.

The Temple remains open from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The temple is located at about 1.5 Kms from Thiruporur Bus Stand, 17 Kms from Mahabalipuram, 25 Kms from Chengalpattu, 27 Kms from Chengalpattu Junction Railway Station, 31 Kms from Thiruvanmiyur, 40 Kms from Chennai Airport, 45 Kms from Chennai Central Railway Station and 45 Kms from Chennai. Thiruporur is situated on the Old Mahabalipuram Road (IT Highway) connecting Chennai and Mahabalipuram via Kelambakkam. Frequent Buses are available from Chennai to reach Thiruporur.
