Swayambu Narasimhar Temple, Edarkundram, Chengalpattu

Swayambu Narasimhar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Edarkundram Village in Thiruporur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. The Temple is situated on the side of a small hillock.





Legends

As per legend, it is believed that Idaikkadar, one of the 18 famous Siddhars, performed penance here and was blessed with the darshan of Lord Narasimha.




The Temple

The Temple is situated in a hillock and can be accessed through flight of 50 steps. The sanctum enshrines a sculpture of Narasimha with a canopy of five headed Adisesha carved on the face of the rock. There is an idol of Lakshmi Narasimha in front of the sculpture. Idols of Azhwars and Acharyas can be found in the sanctum. There is a shrine for Hanuman in the lower level below the sanctum.

The Temple is located at about 1 Km from Kottamedu Bus Stop, 3 Kms from Kottamedu Junction Bus Stop, 6 Kms from Manampathy, 12 Kms from Thiruporur, 15 Kms from Thirukazhukundram, 18 Kms from Chengalpattu, 20 Kms from Chengalpattu Junction Railway Station, 41 Kms from Chennai Airport and 57 Kms from Chennai. Edarkundram is situated on Thiruporur to Chengalpattu route.
