Kasi Viswanathar Temple, Kadapakkam, Chengalpattu

Kasi Viswanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kadapakkam Village near Edaikazhinadu Town in Cheyyur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Kasi Viswanathar and Mother is called as Visalakshi.



History

The Temple is believed to be around 500 years old. Potti Pathan served as the chief goldsmith of the mint in Alamparai fort of Nawab Dost Ali Khan. He built a choultry for the benefit of the devotees who went for pilgrimage to Kasi and also fed the pilgrims with foods. He purchased agricultural lands and ensured that the revenues generated from the land would be utilized for the maintenance of the choultry. These properties were called as Potti Pathan Chathiram Manyam. His descendants maintained the temple and choultry after his demise. Narasimha Achari, descendant of Potti Pathan registered the properties to the temple in 1911 CE. All these properties were encroached by the miscreants currently.



The Temple

This Temple is facing towards east. The Temple consists of sanctum, antrala and maha mandapam. Stucco images of Rishabaroodar flanked by Murugan and Vinayaga can be seen on top of the maha mandapam. The sanctum enshrines Kasi Viswanathar in Lingam form. Navagraha Shrine can be seen adjacent to the temple. There is a huge temple tank in front of the temple. There is a small temple dedicated to Lakshmi Narasimhar can be seen next to this temple.

The Temple is located at about 1 Km from Kadapakkam Bus Stop, 5 Kms from Thenpakkam, 12 Kms from Cheyyur, 17 Kms from Marakkanam, 36 Kms from Melmaruvathur, 39 Kms from Melmaruvathur Railway Station, 45 Kms from Puducherry, 45 Kms from Tindivanam, 46 Kms from Tindivanam Railway Station, 63 Kms from Chengalpattu, 103 Kms from Chennai Airport and 108 Kms from Chennai. Kadapakkam is situated on ECR road connecting Chennai and Puducherry. Buses connecting Chennai and Puducherry on ECR stops at Kadapakkam Bus Stop. The Temple is situated at a walkable distance from this Bus Stop.
