Kadambar Koil – The Temple
This temple is facing towards east with three tiered rajagopuram. There is another three tiered gopuram at the western entrance. Dhwaja Sthambam, Balipeedam and Nandi can be found immediately after the rajagopuram, facing towards the sanctum. The temple consists of sanctum, antrala, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. Presiding deity is called as Kadambanatha Swamy and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Shiva Linga on a circular avudaiyar.
Lord is a Swayambhu Moorthy (self-manifested). Vinayaka, Dakshinamurthy, Lingodbhava, Brahma and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. There are several inscriptions on the walls of the sanctum. Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual location. Mother is called as Avudai Nayagi. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated on the right side in the maha mandapam.
She is four armed and is in standing posture. She holds angusam & pasam in her upper hands and shows abhaya & varada hastha in her lower hands. There are shrines for Santhana Ganapathy, Shanmuga with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Navagrahas, Adhikara Nandi, 63 Nayanmars, Kala Bhairavar, Dwara Ganapathy and Surya in the temple premises. There is a mandapam immediately after the rajagopuram inside the temple. Sthala Vriksham is Kadamba tree.
