Varadaraja Perumal Temple,
Kayar, Chengalpattu
Varadaraja Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Kayar Village in Thiruporur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Varadaraja Perumal and Mothers are Sridevi & Bhudevi. The temple is believed to be built in 17th century by the Nayak Kings.
The Temple
This temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has stucco images of Varadharaja Perumal flanked by Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Deepa Sthambam can be seen in front of the entrance arch on the road. Balipeedam and Garuda can be seen in front of the mukha mandapam facing towards the sanctum. The temple consists of sanctum, ardha mandapam and open pillared mukha mandapam.
The sanctum enshrines the presiding deity, Varadaraja Perumal. He is in standing posture along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Sculptures of Ananda Sayana Vishnu, Narasimha, Lakshmi, Ramanuja etc can be seen on the pillars of the mukha mandapam. There is south facing shrine enshrining the images of Azhwar in the temple premises.
