Pasupatheswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Tiruvetkalam near Chidambaram in Cuddalore District of Tamilnadu. The temple is located inside the Annamalai University complex. Presiding Deity is called as Pasupateshwar and Mother is called as Nallanayagi / Sargunambal. The original complex is believed to have been built by Cholas, with later additions from different ruling dynasties. In the year 1914, this was renovated with stones by Peddha Perumal Chettiar of Kanadukathan. In modern times, the temple is maintained and administered by Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.





The temple is praised in the Thevaram hymns of three Saivite saints. Thillai Natarajar Temple, Chidambaram is the first of sacred Shiva Sthalas praised in Thevaram hymns followed by Tiruvetkalam. This is one of the 276 Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalams and 2nd Shiva Sthalam on the northern bank of the river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu (Vadakarai). Saint Arunagirinathar had praised Lord Muruga in this temple in his Thirupugazh hymns. The last consecration ceremony (Maha Kumbabishekam) took place on 02.07.2006.

Temple Opening Time
The temple remains open from 6.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and from 5.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. on all days.
Festivals
There are weekly rituals like Somavaram (Monday) and Sukravaram (Friday), fortnightly rituals like Pradosham, and monthly festivals like Ammavasai (new moon day), Kiruthigai, Pournami (full moon day) and Sathurthi. Tamil New year during Chittirai (April), Vaikasi Visagam during May–June, Aani Thirumanjanam during June - July, Vinayaka Chaturthi in August-September, Purattasi Navarathri in September-October, Deepavali in October-November, Annabishekam during Aipasi, Thiruvadirai during Margazhi, Maha Shivarathri in February-March, Panguni Uthiram in March-April and Karthikai Somavaram are other festivals celebrated in the temple. The annual festival in this temple is celebrated in the Tamil month of Vaikasi on the Visaka asterism where the Sthalapuranam of the temple is enacted.

Prayers
Those facing stammering problems worship here. It is believed that if they consume the sand balls offered as Prasad, they will be cured of this deficiency. Those facing delays in wedding also pray here. Devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother and offer vastras.

This temple is located in the vicinity of the Annamalai University at Chidambaram and is very similar to the one at Sivapuri nearby. The Tiruvetkalam temple is located in the complex of Annamalai University at Chidambaram in Cuddalore District. One has to enter the University Campus through the front entrance and the temple is located near the music college on the back side of the campus.
