Vyagrapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Thiruvengaivasal Village near Pudukottai Town in Illupur Taluk in Pudukottai District of Tamil Nadu, India. Presiding Deity is called as Vyagrapureeswarar and Mother is called as Brahadambal. This temple is considered as Guru Parihara Sthalam.

This temple might have been built by Cholas in 9th century CE and was extensively renovated by Pandyas in 13th century CE.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 6.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. and from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

Festivals

Thaipusam (Jan-Feb), Masi Maha Shivrathri (Feb-Mar), 10 days Vaikasi Visakam (May-Jun), Margazhi Thiruvadhirai (Dec-Jan), Panguni Uthiram (Mar-Apr) and Thiru Karthikai (Nov-Dec) are the festivals celebrated in the temple.

Religious Significance

There are two types of worships called Aga Vazhipadu (worshipping the presiding deity first and going around the other deities in the prakara then) and Pura Vazhipadu (worshipping the other deities in the prakara and coming finally to the presiding deity). This temple is designed for Pura Vazhipadu. The devotee goes around from Mother Brahadambal shrine and towards Nava Vinayaka, Muruga, Dakshinamurthy, Raja Ganapathy, Bhairava, Vishnu, Gajalakshmi, Suryan, Saneeswarar and finally reaches Vyagrapureeswarar.

Prayers

Devotees pray here for wedding boon and removal of obstacles in the way, education and child boon. Devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother and offer Vastras.

Connectivity

The Temple is located at about 6 Kms from Thirukokarnam, 8 Kms from Pudukottai Bus Stand, 8 Kms from Pudukottai Railway Station, 9 Kms from Pudukottai Old Bus Stand and 49 Kms from Trichy Airport. Thiruvengaivasal is situated on the outskirts of Pudukottai town on Pudukkottai – Trichy road. Bus facility is not frequent and convenient.
