Kasi Viswanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kumbakonam Town in Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Kasi Viswanathar and Mother is called as Visalakshi.  This temple is also popularly known as Nava Kannigai temple. The Temple is situated on northern banks of Mahamaha Tank.

History
It is claimed by few people that Kudanthai Karonam mentioned in Devaram hymns refer to this Temple. However, the seventh song mentions about Thenarmozhiyal, consort of Someswar of Someswaran Temple. Hence, Someswaran Temple can be considered as actual Paadal Petra Sthalam. The present masonry structure was built during the Nayak during the 16th century CE. In modern times, the temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Temple Opening Time
The temple remains open from 7.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon and from 4.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.
Poojas
The temple priests perform the puja (rituals) during festivals and on a daily basis. The temple rituals are performed six times a day; Kalasanthi at 6:00 a.m., Irandam Kalm at 9:00 a.m., Uchikalam at 12:00 a.m., Sayarakshai at 6:00 p.m, Irandam Kalm at 7:30 p.m., and Arthajamam at 9:00 p.m. Each ritual comprises four steps: abhisheka (sacred bath), alangaram (decoration), naivethanam (food offering) and deepa aradanai(waving of lamps) for Viswanathar and Visalakshi.
Festivals
There are weekly rituals like Somavaram (Monday) & Sukravaram (Friday), fortnightly rituals like Pradosham & monthly festivals like Amavasai(new moon day), Kiruthigai, Pournami (full moon day) and sathurthi. Shivaratri & Masi Maha Brahmotsavam during the Tamil month of Maasi (February - March) and Panguni Uthiram during Panguni are the major festivals celebrated in the temple.

Prayers
People pray here for girls not attaining puberty in time, for removal of obstacles in marriage proposals, child boon and for cleansing from sins. In all these cases, the girls along with their parents visit the Nava Kannika shrine in this temple and offer prayers for 16 successive Fridays. Realizing their wish, devotees perform abishek to Lord and Mother and offer vastras.
