Sakshinatheswarar Temple, Thiruppurambiyam, Thanjavur

Sakshinatheswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Thiruppurambiyam in Kumbakonam Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Sakshinatheswarar / Sakshinathar / Punnaivana Nathar and Mother is called as Karumpadu Sollammai / Karumbanna Sollammai / Ishuvaani / Kuraivilla Azhagi / Ekasphavani. The temple is situated on the northern bank of the river Manniyaru and is surrounded by three rivers Manniyaru, Kollidam and the Cauvery. Thiruppurambiyam was the fierce battlefield in the 9th century CE deciding the bright future of Cholas. 





This Temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram hymns. This Temple is the 100th Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 46th sthalam on the north side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. This Temple is considered as one of the 44 Paadal Petra Sthalams where the Moovar (Thirugnanasambanthar, Thirunavukkarasar and Sundarar had rendered their Pathigams. Lord Murugan of this temple is praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his revered Thirupugazh hymns.

The Temple is located at about 3.5 Kms from Innambur, 6 Kms from Puliancheri, 7 Kms from Swamimalai, 11 Kms from Kumbakonam, 11 Kms from Kumbakonam Bus Stand, 12 Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 31 Kms from Thiruvaiyaru, 39 Kms from Thanjavur and 88 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated at about 6 Kms from Puliancheri towards Kollidam river off the Kumbakonam to Thiruvaiyaru route. Take Bus Nos 6 and 18 from Kumbakonam Bus Stand to reach Thirupurambiyam.
