Sakshinatheswarar Temple, Thiruppurambiyam – Literary Mention

This Temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram hymns. This Temple is the 100th Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 46th sthalam on the north side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. This Temple is considered as one of the 44 Paadal Petra Sthalams where the Moovar (Thirugnanasambanthar, Thirunavukkarasar and Sundarar had rendered their Pathigams.

Lord Murugan of this temple is praised by Saint Arunagirinathar in his revered Thirupugazh hymns. There existed a literature called Ulanool, no edition is now available. Also, only 10 verses are available from the Purambayamalai authored by Pandit Sundaresa Wandayar. Saint Pattinathar has also visited this temple and rendered his Padhigam praising Lord Shiva. 

This temple has also been mentioned as Purambayamathanil Aram Pala Aruliyum in the verses called Keerti Tiru Agaval of the larger composition Thiruvasagam by Manickavasagar, who is also one of the 63 Nayanmars. This temple also finds a place in the compilation of Thiruvilayadal Puranam which briefs the 64 divine deeds of Lord Shiva, compiled by Paranjothi Munivar.
