Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple,
Thirunallur, Thanjavur
Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thirunallur Village in Kumbakonam Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Sundareswarar and Mother is called as Meenakshi. The Temple is situated on the southern banks of Manniyaru River.
The Temple
This Temple is facing towards
east with an entrance arch. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found before the maha
mandapam facing towards sanctum. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum,
ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. The maha mandapam is designed to look like
the forehead of a bat (Vovval Nethi Mandapam). Presiding Deity is called as Sundareswarar
and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam.
Vinayaga, Dakshinamoorthy,
Vishnu, Durga and Naga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Durga
is of special significance here. Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual
location. Mother is called as Meenakshi. She is housed in a separate south
facing shrine. Her shrine is situated to the left side of the sanctum in maha
mandapam. There are shrines, Vinayaga, Murugan and Gaja Lakshmi in the temple
premises.

Kms from Neerathanallur, 7 Kms from Eragaram, 8 Kms from Kumbakonam, 9 Kms from
Kumbakonam Bus Stand, 6 Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 45 Kms from Thanjavur
and 95 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated
on Kumbakonam to Neerathanallur Route.
