Chozhamudaiyar Temple, Kolli Hills, Namakkal

Chozhamudaiyar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kolli Hills of the Eastern Ghats in Kolli Hills Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. This temple is also considered as Pallipadai Temple (burial shrine) of Gandaraditya Chola.


The Temple

This temple is facing towards east. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found facing towards the sanctum. The temple consists of sanctum, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. The sanctum enshrines the presiding deity, Chozhamudaiyar, in the form of Shiva Linga. It is said that the Shiva Linga is installed over the ashes of Gandaraditya Chola. Shrines of Vinayaga, Murugan and Navagrahas can be seen in the temple premises.

Puducombai Falls is a waterfall located in Kolli Hills of the Eastern Ghats in Kolli Hills Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. This falls is situated amidst dense forest and can be accessed through trekking through forest for about 2 Kms. Taking bath in this falls has medicinal benefits as the water runs through the herbal plants in the forest. Locals help is required to reach this fall as it is located inside the forest.

Ancient Shiva Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kolli Hills of the Eastern Ghats in Kolli Hills Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. This Temple considered as one of the ancient temples in Kolli Hills. The temple is located amidst the farms lands close to the Vasalurpatty boat house.


History

This temple has been recently excavated and is believed to be built in 9th century CE by Pallavas.

The Temple

This Temple is completely in ruins. It consists of sanctum and ardha mandapam. The sanctum enshrines a Shiva Lingam. Nandi can be found facing towards the sanctum in the ardha mandapam.

Arapaleeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kolli Hills of the Eastern Ghats in Kolli Hills Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Arapaleeswarar / Arapalli Mahadevar / Arapalli Udaiyar and Mother is called as Aram Valartha Nayagi / Thayammai. The Temple is considered as Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Appar and Sambandar had a mention about this temple. Lord Murugan of this temple is praised in Thirupugazh hymns of Saint Arunagirinathar. Kolli Hills is reputed to be the headquarters of ancient black magic. Hence, the temple is frequented by Sadhus and Tantrics.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 07.00 AM to 01.00 PM and 2.30 PM to 7.00 PM. During the festival days, the temple remains open from 06.00 AM to 10.00 PM.

Festivals

Masi Maha Shivarathri (Mar-Apr), Adi Perukku (Jul-Aug), Purattasi Navaratri (Sep-Oct), Aippasi Annabishekam (Oct-Nov), Karthikai Deepam (Nov-Dec) and Margazhi Thiruvadhirai (Dec-Jan) are the festivals celebrated here. The tribals in the region join the devotees in celebrating Adiperukku in their own traditional ways. They catch the fishes, bore their nose and leave them back in the river again. The Valvil Ori festival and the spring festivals draws huge crowds to the temple.

Prayers

Devotees pray to Lord Shiva for child boon, removal of obstacles in marriage talks, solving family disputes,  and excellence in education. Devotees believe that Arapaleeswarar is in the form of a fish. Therefore, they offer food to the fishes in the Pancha Nadi river before entering the temple. Devotees pray to Aram Valartha Nayagi by standing below the Sri Chakra Yantra in the ceiling of the mukha mandapa of her shrine for wealth.

Agaya Gangai (Ganges of the Sky) waterfall is a multi-tiered waterfall, located in Kolli Hills of the Eastern Ghats in Kolli Hills Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. A Jungle stream named Panchanathi (Aiyaru) descends as the Agaya Gangai from a height of about 300 feet near the Arapaleeswarar Temple atop the Kolli Hills. It is located in a valley surrounded by mountains on all sides. The base of the falls can be reached after descending down through flight of 1025 steps.


The starting point of the steps is located near the Arapaleeswarar Temple. The trekking from the temple to the falls takes about one hour and return journey takes about one and half hour. One need to be physically fit to take this trek. This short trek to the waterfall and back is itself a great experience as it offers you to see the magnificent views of the surrounding valleys, dense forests and the distance view of the waterfall.  


There is another route from Puliyancholai, which takes about five hours trek to reach the falls. This route runs through dense forests and mountain regions. This trekking route is a difficult path and suitable for experienced trekkers. The water of the falls is considered to contain medicinal properties due to the varieties of medicinal herbs grown across the forest which makes it a natural spa. People here believe that taking bath in the water cures many diseases.


Local people assemble here to pray and express their gratitude for the river on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Aadi. Ideal time to visit this falls is during post monsoon season which extends from November through January. The caves of Korakka Siddhar and Kalanginatha Siddhar are situated near the Agaya Gangai waterfalls inside the forest area.

Masila Falls is a waterfall located in Kolli Hills of the Eastern Ghats in Kolli Hills Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. It is a medium sized tiered waterfall situated amidst the dense green forests. The Masi Periyasami temple is situated on top of the Masila falls. This waterfall is great place for trekking. Half hour trek take you to the top of falls. It is also a great place for photography. There is an entry fees of Rs 10 per head for adults to enter the falls.
