Manonmaneesar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Vijayanarayanam in Thirunelveli District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Manonmaneesar and Mother is called as Manonmaneeswari / Shivakami. The Temple is famous for Pournami Girivalam (Circumbulation on Pournami days.


As per Tamirabarani Mahatmiyam, five important Shiva temples in Tirunelveli region were considered as Pancha Aasana Sthalams. This Temple is considered to be part of Pancha Aasana Sthalams of Thirunelveli District.

The Temple
Presiding Deity is called as Manonmaneeswarar. Lord is facing east and housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Vimanam over the sanctum is called as Manonmani Vimanam. Dwajasthambam, Balipeedam and Nandhi can be found facing towards sanctum. Here Nandhi can be seen in leaning position, as if Nandhi is ready to hear the grievances of devotees and solve it with the help of Lord Shiva.


Mother is called as Manonmaneeswari / Shivakami. She is facing south. Mother Shrine is located to the right side of the sanctum. There are shrines for 63 Nayanmars, Vinayagar, Dakshinamoorthy, Kanni Moola Vinayagar, Kasi Viswanathar, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli and Deivanai, Chandikeswarar, Bhairavar and 21 Siddhars in the Temple premises.


There is a Theertham called Manonmani Theertham (Sivagangai Theertham) located in front of the Temple. The water from this Theertham has many medicinal values. Vallanadu Siddhar Sadhu Chidambara Swamigal used to treat patients with the water from this Theertham.

Inscriptions
There is an inscription dated to 17th regnal year of Pandya King Sadaiyan Maran on the south wall of the Temple. It records the gift of money made to the god Karrali-Perumanadigal of the Manomaya-Isvaram temple by a certain Tiruvengada Erichchi in the name of Puvanavan Tirumaladhikarigal of Valainjiya-Kurichchi. The Perunguri-sabha of the village which met in the temple on a day of the solar eclipse in that year invested this amount in the purchase of land 6 ma in extent. As the month in which the solar eclipse occurred has not been specified, the year cannot be calculated.

The Temple remains open from 5.30 AM to 1.00 PM and 04.00 PM to 10.00 PM.
Festivals
Shivarathri and Pournami days are celebrated in this Temple with much pomp and glory.

The Temple is located at about 8 Kms from Parappadi, 18 Kms from Thisayanvilai, 20 Kms from Nanguneri Railway Station, 23 Kms from Nanguneri, 38 Kms from Tirunelveli, 57 Kms from Tuticorin Airport and 136 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram Airport. The Temple is situated on Nanguneri to Thisayanvilai Route. From Thisayanvilai, after crossing RECT Polytechnic College, take a right turn and the temple can be reached in another 5 Kms.

Ananthapuri Express stops at Nanguneri. From Nanguneri, take an auto to reach the temple. Also, share auto/share van run every hour. Bus ply every hour from Nanguneri towards Moolaikaripetti. One can get down at the Shenbagaramanallur junction – 2 Kms away and take a local auto to the temple.

Tiruvazhudeeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Eruvadi in Thirunelveli District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Tiruvazhudeeswarar and Mother is called as Periya Nayagi Amman. The Temple is located very close to Valliyur. This Temple is located on the banks of Nambiyaru. The Temple is believed to be 1600 years old. This place was called as Veera Ravivarma Chathurvedhi Mangalam.

The Temple
The Temple can be entered through an entrance arch. There is a Mottai Gopuram (unfinished Gopuram) after the entrance arch. This Gopuram is unfinished because of the foreign invasions and past political situations. Fish Symbol of Pandyas is engraved on the western side of Nandhi Mandapam Roof. This testifies that the Temple was built during Pandyan rule. Presiding Deity is called as Tiruvazhudeeswarar and Mother is called as Periya Nayagi Amman.






Mostly Presiding Deity and Utsavar Idols looks different in most of the Temples. The speciality of this Temple is both looks similar. Nandhi, Balipeedam and Dwajasthambam are found facing the Sanctum. Mother takes precedence in the worship. Theertham associated with this Temple is Nambiyaru River.

Thiru Nageswarar Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located at Nanguneri in Thirunelveli District of Tamilnadu. This place is about 32 kms from Thirunelveli. This temple is close to Vanamamalai Perumal temple. The temple is with a single prakaram. A big Pushkarani can be seen in front of the temple. Main Deity is Swayambu Lingam known as Thiru Nageswarar and his consort Sivakami Ammai. Murugan appears in single face with four hands in standing posture along with peacock in this Temple. Arunagiri Nathar sang Thirupugazh on Lord Subramanyar of this place. One can come out of severe Sarpa Dosha by conducting pooja here.

The temple is located at the centre of the Nanguneri town near to Vanamamalai Perumal Temple. Nanguneri is located at about 14 Kms from Valliyur, 16 Kms from Thirukkurungudi, 32 Kms from Thirunelveli, 190 Kms from Madurai and 130 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram. All buses from Thirunelveli to Nagercoil pass through Nanguneri. Buses are available for every 10 minutes between Thirunelveli and Nagercoil (Nanguneri can be reached within 45 minutes from Thirunelveli bus stand). Kanyakumari Exp and Ananthapuri Express from Chennai stop at Nanguneri station. Nearest Railway Station is located at Valliyur and Nanguneri. Sathya Vageeswarar Temple is dedicated to Hindu God Shiva located in Kalakkad village in Thirunelveli in the South Indian state of Tamilnadu. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple has three precincts. Shiva is worshipped as Sathya Vageeswarar and his consort Parvathi as Gomathi. A granite wall surrounds the temple, enclosing all its shrines. The temple has a 135 ft. (41 m) gateway tower containing 1,500 stucco images. The temple was originally built by Pandyas during the 13th century and Nayak kings commissioned pillared halls and major shrines of the temple during the 15-16th century.





The temple has artistic sculptures representative of Nayak art. The temple has close to 200 paintings in the temple depicting Indian epic tales. The temple also has a granary made of masonry, which is believed to be commissioned during the 13th century. There is a hall of musical pillars, commissioned by the king of Travancore, Boothala Veera Udaya Marthanda Varman during the 16th century. Sunlight falls on the main deity on 20, 21 and 22 of March and September every year.





The temple is open from 6 am - 12 pm and 4-8 pm on all days except during festival days when it is open the full day. Four daily rituals and three yearly festivals are held at the temple, of which the Vaikasi Visakam festival during the Tamil month of Vaikasi (May - June) being the most prominent. Tamil Saivite Saint Appar has recited songs in praise of the deity. Hence it is called as Thevara Vaipu Sthalam.





In the stone inscriptions found around the temple, the lord is referred to as Puramerichchuvarudaiviyya Nayanar. The Rajagopuram renovation and temple Kumbha Abishekam (ritual consecration) was performed on 14 July 2011 by Bhakthar Peravai (Devotees Forum). The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious & Endowment Board of the Government of Tamilnadu.
