Pon Kaliamman Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to goddess Kali located in Unjanai Village in Tiruchengode Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. Pon Kaliamman is considered as the family deity of Kaari Kulam of Kongu Vellala Goundars.

History

The temple is believed to be built in 15^th century CE. There are two memorial stones dating back to 15^th century CE can be seen in the temple premises. These stones might be installed in memory of the donors or builders of this temple.

The Temple

This temple consists of sanctum, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. The sanctum enshrines the image of Pon Kaliyamman. There is a separate shrine for Karuppannar in the temple premises. Huge stucco images of two horses, lion mount and Balipeedam can be seen in front of the temple. An ancient sculpture of Jyestha Devi (Thavvai) can be seen in the temple premises.

Chidambareswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Agrahara Mettupatty Village in Mohanur Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Chidambareswarar and Mother is called as Shivakami. This temple is situated on the banks of Valaiyapatti river.

The Temple

This temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has stucco images of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found in the prakaram facing towards the sanctum. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. Presiding deity is called as Chidambareswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. It is said that sun rays fall on the Lingam for three days (27^th,28^th & 29^th)in the Tamil month of Masi (Feb-Mar).

Dakshinamoorthy, Brahma, Lingodbhava and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual location. Mother is called as Shivakami. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in the maha mandapam to the left of the sanctum. Shrines of Vinayaka, Subramanya, Subramanya with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Bhairava, Surya and Chandran can be seen in the temple premises.  Theertham associated with this temple is Valaiyapatti River.

Bheemeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Sarkar Manappalli Village in Mohanur Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Bheemeswarar and Mother is called as Brihannayaki. The temple is situated on the northern bank of Cauvery river.

Legends

Bheemeswarar:

As per legend, Bheema, one of the Pandavas created a Lingam from the sand, installed it here and worshipped sincerely during their exile. Hence, Lord Shiva came to be called as Bheemeswarar.

Manappalli:

As the place is surrounded by sand (Manal in Tamil) on all four sides, the place came to be called as Manappalli.

History

The temple is believed to be built by Cholas. Inscriptions dating back to the reigns of Rajendra Chola can be seen in this temple.

Presiding deity is called as Bheemeswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbhava, Brahma and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual location.

Mother is called as Brihannayaki. She is housed in a separate east facing shrine. Her shrine is situated to the left side of the sanctum. Shrines of Narthana Vinayaga, Subramanya with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Navagrahas, Sapta Matrikas, Kala Bhairava, Shiva Lingam, Uma Mahesvara, Gaja Lakshmi and Soundarya Nayaki can be seen in the temple premises. Theertham associated with this temple is Cauvery river. It flows at about 300 metres to the south of the temple premises.

History

The Temple was believed to be built by Kongu Cholas. The Temple is believed to be around 1200 years old.

The Temple

This is an east facing Temple with an entrance on the southern side. The Temple is enclosed by compound walls. Nandi housed in a four pillared Mandapam and Balipeedam can be found facing the sanctum. Stone Deepa Sthambam can be found outside the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Mukha Mandapam, Antrala, Artha Mandapam and Sanctum.

Presiding Deity is called as Choleeswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Lord is a Swayambhu Moorthy. Mother is called as Visalakshi. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. She looks beautiful with everlasting smile in her face. Her idol and Thiruvasi are carved in single granite stone, a unique feature in this temple.

Naga Idols can be found near the entrance of the Temple. There are shrines for Ganesha and Chandikeswarar in the Temple premises. There is an inscription dated to 16^th Century AD in one of the pillars of Artha Mandapam. It talks about the grant of oil and cotton to the temple in lighting lamps. There is another inscription in a pillar in Mukha Mandapam.

Temple Opening Time

The Temple remains open from 06.00 AM to 10.00 AM. The Temple conducts one Kala Pooja only.

Shiva related festivals and monthly Pradoshams are celebrated in this Temple.

History

It was believed that King Valvil Ori worshipped Lord Shiva of this Temple. Valvil Ori was a Velir Tamil chief who ruled over the Kolli Hills region, Rasipuram and surrounding areas in Mazhanadu, a part of Kongu Nadu region around 200 BC. He is regarded as one of the greatest archers the country has ever seen. He was one of the Last seven patrons of Tamil or Kadai Ezhu Vallal. Politically he aligned with the Cholas and fought against the Cheras and Malaiyaman Thirumudi Kari. It is said that he was defeated and killed by Kari of the beautiful spear, the lord of Mullur, who then gave Kolli hills to the Cheras. Kari himself was later killed by the Chola king Killivalavan.

The Temple

This is an east facing Temple. A Deepastambam can be found in front of the Temple. Nandi, Balipeedam and a wooden Dwajastambam can be found immediately after the entrance, facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Maha Mandapam, Artha Mandapam and Sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Sevvantheeswarar / Mathru Bhoodheshwarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam.

Mother is called as Kunthalambigai / Matuvar Kuzhal Ammai. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in Maha Mandapam. There is a shrine for Kalyana Subramanya in the temple premises. This Shrine has a small front Mandapam. There is a small Mandapam for his Vehicle, Peacock, facing his shrine. He is seated on peacock with Valli and Deivanai on each side.

There is an idol of Palaniappar in the front Mandapam of Kalyana Subramanya Shrine. He is holding a spear in one hand and wearing his hair in a Kondai (knot) on his head. This idol looks very similar to the idol of Palaniappar in Belukkuruchi Temple. It is believed that the idol of Palaniappar was originally situated Kalyana Subramanya Shrine, but later got replaced with the idol of Kalyana Subramanya.

There are shrines of Niruthi Vinayaga, Durga, Pancha Lingams, 63 Nayanmars, Suryan, Chandran, Saneeswarar, Kala Bhairava, Chandikeswarar, Pradosha Moorthy and Navagrahas in the Temple premises.

Festivals

Shivaratri, Aani Thirumanjanam and monthly Pradoshams are celebrated in this Temple.
