Temple, Agrahara Mettupatty, Namakkal
Chidambareswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Agrahara Mettupatty Village in Mohanur Taluk in Namakkal District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Chidambareswarar and Mother is called as Shivakami. This temple is situated on the banks of Valaiyapatti river.
The
Temple
This
temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has
stucco images of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati. Nandi and Balipeedam can be
found in the prakaram facing towards the sanctum. The sanctum sanctorum
consists of sanctum, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. Presiding deity is
called as Chidambareswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in
the form of Lingam. It is said that sun rays fall on the Lingam for three days
(27th,28th & 29th)in the Tamil month of
Masi (Feb-Mar).
Dakshinamoorthy,
Brahma, Lingodbhava and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls.
Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual location. Mother is called as Shivakami.
She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in the
maha mandapam to the left of the sanctum. Shrines of Vinayaka, Subramanya,
Subramanya with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Bhairava, Surya and Chandran
can be seen in the temple premises. Theertham
associated with this temple is Valaiyapatti River.
Connectivity
The
temple is located at about 2.5 Kms from Valaiyapatti Bus Stop, 15 Kms from Mohanur,
15 Kms from Namakkal, 15 Kms from Namakkal Bus Stand, 16 Kms from Namakkal
Railway Station, 33 Kms from Musiri and 80 Kms from Trichy Airport. The temple
is situated on Namakkal to Musiri route.
