Vardhamaneswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thirupugalur Village near Thirukannapuram in Thirumarugal Taluk in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Vardhamaneswarar / Nikazhkaala Nadhar and Mother is called as Manonmani. This Shrine is called as Thirupugalur Vardhamaneswaram.

This Temple is situated inside Thirupugalur Agnipureeswarar Temple. This shrine is considered as Paadal Petra Sthalam as it is praised in the verses of Devaram by Sambandar. This temple is considered as the 193^rd Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalams and 76^th Shiva Sthalam on the Southern bank of the river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. This shrine is considered as Avathara Sthalam of Muruga Nayanar.

The Temple

This Temple is situated inside Thirupugalur Agnipureeswarar Temple. This shrine is considered as Paadal Petra Sthalam as it is praised in the verses of Devaram by Sambandar. This east facing shrine is situated adjacent to the sanctum of Agnipureeswarar on the right side. Balipeedam and Nandi can be seen facing this shrine. Presiding Deity is called as Vardhamaneswarar / Nikazhkaala Nadhar and is facing east. He is housed in the shrine in the form of Lingam.

Idol of Muruga Nayanar can be seen facing this shrine. Muruga Nayanar served Lord Vardhamaneeswarar by preparing garlands for him. Mother is called as Manonmani. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Sambandar hymns on Thirupugalur Vardhamaneswaram is inscribed on the walls. Idols and Shrines of Bala Ganapathy, Chandrasekarar, Dhandapani and Chandikeswarar can be seen in the hall.

Vanmeeganathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Seeyathamangai Village in Nagapattinam Taluk in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Vanmeeganathar and Mother is called as Neelotpalambal. This Temple is also called as Kala Bhairavar Temple. The Temple is sub temple of ThirumarugalRatnagiriswarar Temple.

The Temple

The Temple is facing towards east. Sub Shrines of Lord Murugan and Vinayaga can be seen at the entrance of the sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Vanmeeganathar and is east facing. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Shiva Lingam. Dakshinamoorthy, Lingodbhava, Brahma, Durga and Vinayaga are the Koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Chandikeswarar Shrine can be seen at his usual location.

Mother is called as Neelotpalambal.  She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There is west facing shrine of Kala Bhairavar can be seen in the temple premises. It is situated northeast corner of the temple. This Temple is also called as Kala Bhairavar Temple because of the presence of this shrine. This Shrine also houses two more Bhairavars nearby. There are shrines for Vinayaga, Nagas and Suryan in the temple premises. There is no Navagraha Shrine in this Temple.

Viswanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Kadambara Vazhkai Village near Kilvelur Town in Kilvelur Taluk in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Viswanathar / Sakalanathar and Mother is called as Visalakshi / Logambal. The Temple is considered as one of the Pancha Kadamba Sthalams.

Legends

Lord Muruga annihilated Sura Padman, his brothers and his army to safeguard Devas. Due to the killings, he acquired Veerahathi Dosha. Due to the Dosha, Lord Muruga prayed to Lord Shiva for relief. Lord Shiva advised Lord Murugan to worship him at Kilvelur, While worshipping Lord Shiva at Kilvelur, Lord Murugan installed five Shiva Lingas around Kilvelur and worshipped Lord Shiva to get rid of the sin of killing the demons during Sura Samhara. Hence these temples are collectively called as Pancha Kadamba Sthalams.

The Temple

The Temple facing towards east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has stucco images of Rishabaroodar flanked by Vinayaga, Murugan and Nayanmars. Balipeedam and Nandhi Mandapam can be found facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Maha Mandapam, Artha Mandapam and Sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Viswanathar / Sakalanathar and is facing east.

He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Karpagavalli. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine in the Maha Mandapam. There is a separate shrine for Varadaraja Perumal in the temple premises. Varadaraja Perumal is gracing the devotees along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. There are shrines for Vinayaga and Murugan in the temple premises.

Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Artha Mandapam and Sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Vanrondareeser. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Chandikeswarar Shrine can be found in his usual location.

Mother is called as Abhirami. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is located on the right side of the sanctum. She is gracing the devotees in standing posture. Idols of Vinayaga and Murugan can be found immediately after the entrance. There is a shrine for Eyarkon Kalikkama Nayanar in the western prakaram.

History

The temple was believed  to be built during 10^th Century by Cholas. The Temple was renovated during 16^th Century by Nayaks.

The Temple

This is a small east facing temple with an entrance arch. Nandhi and Balipeedam are housed in a small mandapam immediately after the entrance arch. There is no Dwajastambam. The Sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, Antarala and Artha Mandapam. The Arthamandapam is of Vavvalanethi type. Presiding Deity is called as Mahadeva Swamy and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Dakshinamurthy and Brahma are the Koshta idols located around the sanctum walls.

Mother is called as Gnanambigai. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine located in Artha Mandapam. There is a shrine for Nandanar in the prakaram. It is situated on the left side immediately after the entrance. Nandanar is in worshiping posture facing Lord Shiva with raised hands above the head. His shrine is facing west towards sanctum.

There are shrines for Selva Ganapthy, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Chandikeswarar, Kailasanathar, Mahavishnu, Bhoologanathar, Bairavar, Suryan and Durga in the prakaram. The Temple Tank is situated in front of the Temple premises.
