Vedapureeswarar Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Irinjiyur in Kilvelur Taluk in Nagapattinam
District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Vedapureeswarar and Mother
is called as Vedanayaki. This Temple is considered as Avathara and Mukthi
Sthalam of Satti Nayanar, one of the 63 Nayanmars. The Temple is considered as
Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns had a mention about this Temple. The place was called as Varinjai
in ancient times.

The
Temple
This is a small east facing
Temple with entrances at eastern and southern side. Nandi and Balipeedam can be
found facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Artha Mandapam and
Sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Vedapureeswarar and is facing east. He is
housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Dwarapalakas can be found at the
entrance of Artha Mandapam. Mother is called as Vedanayaki. She is housed in a
separate south facing shrine. There are shrines for Vinayaga, Murugan, Satti
Nayanar and Chandikeswarar in the Temple premises.

Thevara Vaippu Sthalam as Devaram hymns sung by Sundarar had a mention about
this Temple. The Temple is mentioned in 7th Thirumurai in 39th
Patikam in 7th Song.

3.5 Kms from Thevur, 6 Kms from Kilvelur Railway Station, 7 Kms from Kilvelur,
15 Kms from Katchanam, 16 Kms from Thirukkaravasal, 18 Kms from Thiruvarur, 20
Kms from Nagapattinam and 139 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated
on Kilvelur to Katchanam Route via Thevur.
