Nagabharaneeswarar Temple, Melaiyur, Chengalpattu

Nagabharaneeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Melaiyur Village in Thiruporur Taluk in Chengalpattu District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Nagabharaneeswarar and Mother is called as Periyanayaki. The temple is considered as Rahu & Ketu parihara sthalam.

Legends

As per legend, Sage Agastya visited this temple and worshipped Lord Shiva here.

History

The temple is believed to be built by Chola Emperor Rajaraja Chola (947 CE – 1014 CE) as per an inscription found in this temple. The temple was in dilapidated stated in 2002. The locals with help of philanthropist rebuilt this temple and consecrated in 2008.

The Temple

This temple is facing towards east with three tiered rajagopuram. Balipeedam, Dhwaja Sthambam and Nandi can be found immediately after the rajagopuram facing towards the sanctum. The temple consists of sanctum, antrala, maha mandapam and mukha mandapam. Presiding deity is called as Nagabharaneeswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Shiva Lingam. Lord is a Swayambhu Moorthy (self-manifested).Nardana Ganapathy, Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls.

Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual location. The vimana, structure over the sanctum is in the form of Gajabrusta, the shape of an elephant in its sitting posture. Mother is called as Periyanayaki. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There is a shrine for Kasi Viswanathar with his consort Visalakshi adjacent to the sanctum. There is a shrine for Varadaraja Perumal with his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi in the temple premises. Garuda can be seen facing this shrine.


Shrines of Valampuri Vinayaka, Anjaneya, Krishna with his consorts Rukmini & Sathyabama, Ayyappan, Murugan with his consorts Valli & Devasena, Mahalakshmi, Agastya, Lalithambigai, Tripura Sundari, Brahma with his Saraswathi, Chitragupta, Nataraja, Sarabeswarar, Bhairavar, Dattatreya, Sapta Matrikas and Navagrahas with their respective consorts can be seen in the temple premises. The temple tank is situated behind the temple. Sthala Vriksham is Tamarind Tree.


Festivals

Krithikai, Sashti, Pradosham and Pournami are the festivals celebrated here.

Prayers

This temple is considered as parihara sthalam for Rahu and Ketu doshas. Devotees pray here to remove obstacles in marriage alliances and for child boon.

The temple is situated at about 3 Kms from Vengur Junction on Thiruporur to Chengalpattu route. Bus No 55 C plying between Tambaram and Karumbakkam passes through this place.

Shivaloganathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Mangudi Village in Mayiladuthurai Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Shivaloganathar and Mother is called as Shiva Loganayagi. The temple is under the control of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.


Legends

As per legend, Lord Vishnu along with Lakshmi stayed in this village during the marriage ceremony of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati in Thirumanancheri. As Lord Vishnu (Mal) stayed in this village, the village came to be called as Malgudi (means residence of Lord Vishnu). Malgudi later got corrupted to Mangudi.


History

The temple is believed to be built in 12th century CE by the Cholas and later extensively renovated by the Nayak Kings.


The Temple

This temple is facing towards east and is in complete ruins. The entire temple is a brick structure. The entrance gopuram is in dilapidated state. The superstructure over the entrance gopuram had been lost completely. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antrala, ardha mandapam and maha mandapam. The maha mandapam is designed to look like the forehead of a bat (Vovval Nethi Mandapam). All the structures are in dilapidated state. The roof over the maha mandapa is completely lost.


Presiding deity is called as Shivaloganathar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual location. Mother is called as Shiva Loganayagi. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in maha mandapam to the left side of the sanctum. As the shrines and structures are in dilapidated state, the idols of Vishnu, Vinayaga,  Kasi Viswanathar, Dakshinamoorthy, Durga and Murugan are kept in the ardha mandapam for safety reasons.

The specialty of the temple is on the auspicious day of Shivrathri, those who visit Thirumangalam Bhoologanathar Temple on first Kaala Pooja, Mangudi Shivaloganathar Temple on second Kaala Pooja, Poyyakudi Naganathar Temple on third Kaala Pooja and again Thirumangalam Bhoologanathar Temple on fourth Kaala Pooja will get the benefit of worshipping all Shivalingas in in the world.

Devotees need to take the Kallanai – Poompuhar Road from Mayiladuthurai towards Kumbakonam, take a diversion at Mappadugai towards Ponnur, then take a diversion at Ponnur towards Thirumangalam and the temple is situated at about 750 metres from Thirumangalam.

Naganatha Swamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Poyyakudi Village in Mayiladuthurai Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Naganatha Swamy and Mother is called as Saantha Nayagi. This temple is considered as Parihara Sthalam for Naga Dosha, Rahu and Ketu doshas. Poyyakudi was called as Poigai Kudi in ancient times.



Legends

It is believed that planets Rahu and Ketu worshipped Lord Shiva here.



The Temple

This temple is facing towards east with three tiered Rajagopuram. Nandi and Balipeedam can be seen immediately after the Rajagopuram facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Ardha Mandapam and Maha Mandapam. The Maha Mandapam is designed to look like the forehead of a bat (Vovval Nethi Mandapam). There is another Nandi and Balipeedam can be seen in Maha Mandapam facing the sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Naganatha Swamy and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam.



Dakshinamoorthy, Lingodbhava and Durga are the Koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Chandikeswarar Shrine can be seen in his usual location. Mother is called as Saantha Nayagi. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in Maha Mandapam to the left side of the sanctum. There are shrines and idols of Vinayagar, Murugan, Selva Vinayagar, Nardana Vinayagar, Rahu, Ketu, Lord Vishnu with his consort Maha Lakshmi, Bhairavar, Suryan and Saneeswarar in the temple premises.

Swarnapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Then Ponparappi Village in Chinna Salem Taluk of Kallakurichi District in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Presiding deity is called as Swarnapureeswarar and Mother is called as Swarnambigai. The temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board of the Government of Tamilnadu.

History

The temple was built by King Aragalur Udaiya Ponparappinan Rajarajadevan (Magadesan) of Magadai Mandalam in 13th century CE during the reign of Kulothunga Chola III.

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 05.30 a.m. to 09.30 p.m. continuously without any break.

Festivals

Avani Pournami (Aug-Sep), Masi Shivaratri (Feb-Mar) and Panguni Uthiram (Mar-Apr) are the festivals celebrated here. Monthly pradoshams are also observed here.

Prayers

People pray here for good farm yields, child boon, mental peace, relief from debt burdens and removal of obstacles in wedding proposals. People suffering from Rahu Ketu dosha, Chevvai dosha, Kalathira dosha and Kala Sarpa dosha perform abhishekam to Bala Nandi for relief. Students perform abishekam to Banalinga with milk mixed with pepper to gain good ranks. Those born of Avittam star perform abishekam to Lord Shiva with honey. Those facing problems from the adverse aspects of Moon and Saturn planets pray in Kaagapujandar Jeeva Samadhi.

Sundara Choleeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Kulathur Village near Keeranur Town in Kulathur Taluk in Pudukottai District of Tamil Nadu, India. The Temple is one of the protected monuments in Tamil Nadu declared by Archaeological Survey of India.

History

The temple is believed to be built by Cholas. Inscription dating back to the 30th regnal year of Kulotunga Chola III is the oldest inscription found in this temple. It records the reconstruction of the vimana of this temple.

The Temple

This temple is facing towards east. Nandi can be found in front of the mukha mandapam facing towards the sanctum. The temple consists of sanctum, ardha mandapam, maha mandapam and mukha mandapam.  Presiding deity is called as Sundara Choleeswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Shiva Lingam. Only the lower portion of the vimana remains. Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual location. There is south facing shrine for goddess Parvathy in the mukha mandapam.

Margapurisvarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Visalur Village in Kulathur Taluk in Pudukottai District of Tamil Nadu, India. Presiding Deity is called as Margasahayesvarar / Margapurisvarar / Vasukisvaramudaiya Mahadevar / Varadukasuramudaiya Nayanar. The Temple is one of the protected monuments in Tamil Nadu declared by Archaeological Survey of India.





History

The Temple is believed to be built by Vijayalaya Chola (848-871 CE) but the earliest inscription is dated to the reign of Parantaka Chola I (907 – 954 CE). Lord Shiva of this temple was called as Vasukisvaramudaiya Mahadevar and Varadukasuramudaiya Nayanar in the inscriptions. The place was called as Visalur, even in ancient times as evidenced from inscriptions of the Cholas and Pandyas found in the temple. Visalur would have held a strategic position during Cholas and Pandyas rule.





Inscriptions of Parantaka Chola I, Rajaraja Chola I, Rajendra Chola II, Kulothunga Chola I, Kulothunga Chola III, Jadavarman Veera Pandya and few local chieftains can be seen in the temple. These inscriptions record mostly the grant of lands and gifts made to this temple. The inscription of Kulothunga III, dated in 1222 CE, mentions installation of idols of the king and his queen in the temple by a local chief, Adhitan Thenkarai Nadalvan.
