Padithurai Vishwanatha Swamy is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Mayiladuthurai Town in Mayiladuthurai Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Kasi Viswanathar and Mother is called as Visalakshi. This temple is situated on the southern bank of Cauvery River.

The Temple

This Temple is facing towards east with three tiered Rajagopuram. Nandi and Balipeedam can be seen immediately after the Rajagopuram. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum and Mukha Mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Viswanathar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Vinayaga, Dakshinamoorthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Durga are the koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Chandikeswarar shrine can be seen in his usual location.

Mother is called as Visalakshi. She is housed in a small separate south facing shrine. There is a separate shrine for Saneeswarar in the temple premises. He is praised as Mangala Sani Bhagavan. This shrine is facing towards east. As Sani is situated opposite to his father Surya and his Guru Bhairava, he appears to be calm and auspicious. There are shrines for Maha Ganapathy, Murugan and Maha Lakshmi in the temple premises.

Saneeswara Bhagwan Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Saturn located at Sholavandan Town in Madurai District of Tamilnadu.

Legends

Years ago, a garden of flowers was established in Sholavandan for pujas in Anjaneya and Siddhi Vinayaka temple. Plants of many varieties of flowers as Parijatham, Nagalingam and Mavalingam were grown here. They had herbal characteristics also. Residents in the Agraharam were maintaining this garden. In course of time due to lack of care, the garden disappeared giving room to bushes sheltering poisonous creatures. Threatened by this development, 40 years ago, people took up cleaning the place. When a young man was clearing around the Mavalinga tree, he felt something underneath.

When he dug three feet further, he found an idol of Sani Bhagwan standing on his Crow vehicle. People thronged the place. With the gracious blessings of the Pontiffs of Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetam and Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, residents of the Agraharam (a street where Brahmins live) wanted to build a temple. The temple was built in 1975 and the consecration was performed. Regular pujas are performed to the deity both in morning and evenings.

Presiding Deity is called as Saneeswara Bhagwan. Lord is a Swayambu Murthy in this Temple. As Saneeswara Bhagwan appeared under the Mavalinga tree, this became the sacred tree of the temple.

Saturn transit days are devotionally observed in the temple. General crowd is huge on Saturdays.

This serves as the remedial centre for Scorpio born people. Praying to Swayambu Saneeswara Bhagwan graces the devotee with child boon. Those who had lost their properties and those who had left the family due to the seven and years, Ashtama (the planet travelling in the 8th place) of Saturn rulings in their horoscopes pray here for recovery of the losses and reunion with family. Devotees light lamps with ghee, dhil oil and offer dhil rice as Nivedhana and do poor feeding. These will relieve the devotees from the adverse aspects of Saturn.

Navagraha Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Navagrahas located in Moratandi Village near Union Territory of Pondicherry in Villupuram District of Tamilnadu. The Temple covers an area of 2 acres. The main deity Saniswaran Bhagwan is about 27 feet tall and each Navagraha idol is 15 feet tall. All Navagrahas are huge idols with their vahanas. Among them, Surya the sun god is present at the centre who resembles his importance compared with Navagrahas.

There is also a huge Vinayagar Statue in this Temple. He is 34 feet tall and made of gold paintings. The idol is present at the entrance and gives darshan to the devotees as soon as you enter the temple. The steps that lead you to the immense Vinayaga are also high. There was also a Vasthu Bhagwan, Lord Shiva as Kalyana Sundareswarar in this Temple.

As each Navagrahas have each distinct tree, there also certain trees that denote the zodiac signs. People with various zodiac signs worship the tree that belongs to their star. Worshipping the god with oil lamps and trees related to star is all a kind of worship in Hinduism. Poojas are also done with various kinds of flowers according to the star of an individual. Religious Practices

The temple priests perform the puja (rituals) during festivals and on a daily basis. The temple rituals are performed three times a day; Kalasanthi at 8:00 a.m., Uchikalam at 12:00 a.m. and Sayarakshai at 6:00 p.m. Each ritual comprises four steps: abhisheka (sacred bath), alangaram (decoration), naivethanam (food offering) and deepa aradanai (waving of lamps) for Lord Shiva and Mother Parvathy. Unlike other Shiva temples, anointing with oil is not performed in the temple as the Swaymbhu Linga is made of sand.
