Varadaraja Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Sathanur Village near Aduthurai Town in Thiruvidaimarudur Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Sathanur is also considered as Avathara Sthalam for Siddhar Thirumoolar, one of the famous 18 Tamil Siddhars and author of Thirumandiram. The Temple is situated on the southern bank of Veera Cholan River.

The Temple

The Temple is facing towards east. Presiding Deity is called as Varadaraja Perumal. He is gracing the devotees along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. Utsava idol is also called as Varadaraja Perumal. The original idol called as Adhi Varadaraja Perumal, once housed the sanctum is kept outside the sanctum. Anjaneya Shrine can be found in the prakaram.

The Temple

The temple is situated behind Sathanur Ayyanar Temple. It is located in the outskirts of the village. The Temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has stucco images of Thirumoolar flanked by Nandis. The Sanctum houses an idol of Thirumoolar. Jeeva Samadhi of Thirumoolar is located in the temple premises.

This Temple is facing towards east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has stucco images of Ayyanar with Poorna and Pushkala. A horse idol can be found facing the sanctum. The Sanctum houses Ayyanar along with consorts Poorna and Pushkala. There is an east facing shrine for Madurai Veeran adjacent to the sanctum. There are shrines and idols of Saptha Kannigais, Moolan and Ganapathy in the temple premises. Paintings of Thirumoolar life can be seen in the temple.

The Temple

The temple is facing east with an unfinished Gopuram. The Temple is located on a raised platform. Presiding Deity is called as Siddheswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. The Bana is tall and housed in square Avudaiyar. Mother is called as Anandha Gowri. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine.

There are shrines of Vinayaga, Lord Murugan with his consorts Valli & Deivanai, Nataraja along with his consort Shivagama Sundari, Arumugam, Durga, Dakshinamoorthy and Utsava Idols in the temple premises. Siddhamrutha Theertham is situated to the northern side of the temple.

Nandi and Balipeedam can be found facing the Sanctum. Idols of Lord Murugan and Vinayaga can be found at the entrance of the sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Kasi Viswanathar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Visalakshi. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine.

Temple Opening Time

The Temple remains open from 06.00 am to 10.00 am and 05.00 pm to 08.00 pm.

Festivals

Shivaratri and monthly Pradosham are the festivals celebrated here with much fanfare.

The Temple

This Temple is facing towards east. The Temple consists of Maha Mandapam and Sanctum. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found in the Maha Mandapam facing the sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Kailasanathar. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Kamakshi. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine in Maha Mandapam.

There are shrines of Alangatti Vinayagar and Muruga in the temple premises. The Temple housed Thirumoolar in a shrine once. The shrine can be seen in the temple with the idol of Thirumoolar. Only two planets (Grahas) can be seen in the Navagraha Shrine.

History

The Temple was renovated from scratches and reconsecrated on 9^th July 2014. There is an inscription related to Sathanur Village can be found in Thiruvavaduthurai Gomuktheeswarar Temple.
