Viswanathar Temple, Sathanur, Thanjavur
Kasi Viswanathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to
Lord Shiva located in Sathanur Village near Aduthurai Town in Thiruvidaimarudur
Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as
Kasi Viswanathar and Mother is called as Visalakshi. Sathanur is also
considered as Avathara Sthalam for Siddhar Thirumoolar, one of the famous 18
Tamil Siddhars and author of Thirumandiram. The Temple is situated on the
southern bank of Veera Cholan River.

The Temple
This is a small temple facing
towards east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has stucco images of Lord
Shiva and Parvathy flanked by two Nandis. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found
facing the Sanctum. Idols of Lord Murugan and Vinayaga can be found at the
entrance of the sanctum. Presiding Deity is called as Kasi Viswanathar and is
facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is
called as Visalakshi. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine.

The Temple remains open from
06.00 am to 10.00 am and 05.00 pm to 08.00 pm.
Festivals
Shivaratri and monthly Pradosham
are the festivals celebrated here with much fanfare.

Temple is situated on Aduthurai to Mangainallur Road.
Aduthurai Town is situated on
the Mayiladuthurai – Kumbakonam
highway, and buses are available from Mayiladuthurai and Kumbakonam. Various
private and government long haul buses stop here connecting this town with
major cities like Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai. Bus facilities to Keezh
Maruthuvakudi from Aduthurai are less frequent. Hence, hire autos from
Aduthurai to reach this Temple.
