Viswanatha Swamy Temple,
Kavanur, Cuddalore
Viswanatha Swamy Temple is
a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kavanur Village in
Virudhachalam Taluk in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is
called as Viswanatha Swamy and Mother is called as Visalakshi. The Temple is
situated on the northern banks of Vellaru River.
The Temple
The Temple is facing towards east with an entrance on the western side. Nandi can be found
facing the sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Artha Mandapam
and Maha Mandapam. Presiding Deity is called as Viswanatha Swamy and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of
Lingam.
Mother is called as Visalakshi. She
is housed in a separate south facing shrine. Her shrine is situated in the Maha
Mandapam. There are shrines for Vinayagar, Murugan, Durga, Chandikeswarar,
Saneeswarar, Navagrahas, Bhairavar and Suryan in the temple premises.
Festivals
Panguni Uthiram is the main festival celebrated here.
Monthly Pradoshams are also observed here.

The Temple is located at about 5 Kms from Srimushnam, 7
Kms from Kammapuram, 20 Kms from Virudhachalam, 21 Kms from Virudhachalam Bus
Stand, 22 Kms from Virudhachalam Junction Railway Station, 67 Kms from
Cuddalore and 146 Kms from Trichy Airport. Devotees need to travel in
Virudhachalam to Sethiyathope Route, take a right diversion road at Kammapuram
and travel for another 7 Kms to reach this Temple.
