Udaiya
Vedheeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Keezh
Maruthuvakudi Village near Aduthurai Town in Thiruvidaimarudur Taluk in
Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Udaiya Vedheeswarar and
Mother is called as Maadhumai Amman. The Temple is situated on the southern
bank of River Cauvery.
History
It is believed that Keezh
Maruthuvakudi hosted a big hospital during Chola period. Hence, the village
came to be called as Keezh Maruthuvakudi.
The Temple
This Temple is facing towards
east. Nandi and Balipeedam can be found in the Maha Mandapam facing the
sanctum. The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Maha Mandapam and Sanctum. Presiding
Deity is called as Udaiya Vedheeswarar and is facing east. He is housed in the
sanctum in the form of Lingam. Mother is called as Maadhumai Amman. She is
housed in a separate south facing shrine in Maha Mandapam. There are shrines of
Vinayaga and Muruga in the temple premises. There is a big pond on the southern
side of the temple.

Chathurthi are the festivals celebrated here with much fanfare.

Temple is located at about 3 Kms from Aduthurai, 3 Kms from Aduthurai Bus
Stand, 3 Kms from Aduthurai Railway Station, 7 Kms from Thiruvidaimaruthur, 9
Kms from Thiruvavaduthurai, 16 Kms from Kumbakonam, 16 Kms from Kumbakonam
Railway Station, 56 Kms from Thanjavur and 117 Kms from Trichy Airport. Aduthurai
Town is situated on the Mayiladuthurai – Kumbakonam highway, and buses are available from
Mayiladuthurai and Kumbakonam. Various private and government long haul buses
stop here connecting this town with major cities like Chennai, Coimbatore and
Madurai. Bus facilities to Keezh Maruthuvakudi from Aduthurai are less
frequent. Hence, hire autos from Aduthurai to reach this Temple.
