Somanathar Temple is a Hindu
Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Killukudi Village near Thirukozhambam
in Thiruvidaimarudur Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity
is called as Somanathar and Mother is called as Somakalambigai. The Temple is
situated on the southern bank of River Cauvery.
Legends
It is believed Lord Chandra
worshipped Lord Shiva of this temple. Hence, Lord came to be called as
Somanathar.
The Temple
This Temple is facing towards
east with an entrance arch. The entrance arch has stucco image of Lord Shiva
& Parvathy on Rishaba. The Temple covers an area of about ½ acres. The
Sanctum Sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Artha Mandapam and Maha Mandapam. Presiding
Deity is called as Somanathar and is facing east. He is housed in the sanctum
in the form of Lingam.
Chandikeswarar Shrine can be
seen in his usual location. Vinayaga, Brahma, Vishnu, Lingodbhava and Durga are
the Koshta idols located around the sanctum walls. Mother is called as
Somakalambigai. She is housed in a separate south facing shrine. There are
shrines for Vinayaga, Murugan, Saraswathi and Maha Lakshmi in the temple premises.

Kms from Aduthurai Bus Stand, 4.5 Kms from Aduthurai, 4.5 Kms from Aduthurai
Railway Station, 7 Kms from Thiruvavaduthurai, 8 Kms from Thiruvidaimaruthur,
18 Kms from Kumbakonam, 18 Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 58 Kms from Thanjavur
and 112 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated on Aduthurai to
Thirukozhambam route via Manjamalli.
