Airavatheswarar Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Sathanur Village near Aduthurai
Town in Thiruvidaimarudur Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Airavatheswarar and
Mother is called as Soundaranayaki. Sathanur is also considered as Avathara
Sthalam for Siddhar Thirumoolar, one of the famous 18 Tamil Siddhars and author
of Thirumandiram. The Temple is situated on the southern bank of Veera Cholan
River.

History
The Temple was renovated from
scratches and reconsecrated on 9th July 2014. There is an
inscription related to Sathanur Village can be found in Thiruvavaduthurai Gomuktheeswarar Temple.
The Temple
The Temple is situated on the
outskirts of the village. Presiding Deity is called as Airavatheswarar and
Mother is called as Soundaranayaki. The Temple has been lost completely but the
lingam remains. A new temple was built recently to house the Lingam. The place
where the Lingam is located is called as Linga Thidal.

Temple is located at about 4 Kms from Thiruvavaduthurai, 4 Kms from Aduthurai
Bus Stand, 5 Kms from Aduthurai, 5 Kms from Aduthurai Railway Station, 6 Kms
from Narasingampettai Railway Station, 21 Kms from Mayiladuthurai, 17 Kms from Kumbakonam,
18 Kms from Kumbakonam Railway Station, 58 Kms from Thanjavur and 119 Kms from Trichy
Airport. The Temple is situated on Aduthurai to Mangainallur Road.
Aduthurai Town is situated on the Mayiladuthurai – Kumbakonam highway, and buses are available from
Mayiladuthurai and Kumbakonam. Various private and government long haul buses
stop here connecting this town with major cities like Chennai, Coimbatore and
Madurai. Bus facilities to Keezh Maruthuvakudi from Aduthurai are less
frequent. Hence, hire autos from Aduthurai to reach this Temple.
