Gorakka Siddhar Temple,

Gorakka Siddhar Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Gorakkar Siddhar located in Vadakku Poigainallur near
Nagapattinam Town in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. The Temple is
actually his Jeeva Samadhi. The Temple contains pictures of all
famous Siddhars of Tamil Nadu. The Temple is located very close to Vadakku
Poigainallur Nandhi Nadheswarar Temple, one among the Thevara Vaippu Sthalam.
Legends
Gorakkar is originally a
Tamil Siddhar, and one of the 18 celebrated Siddhars of Tamilnadu. He was a
student of the Siddhars Agathiyar and Bogar, and is
mentioned various times in the works of Bogar. He spent his growing-up years in
the Velliangiri Mountains in Coimbatore which
is also his birthplace. Other Temples related with Gorakkar are Perur, Thiruchendur and
Trincomalee. Korakkar caves are found in Chaturagiri and Kolli
Hills. Like other siddhas, Korakkar has written songs on Medicine,
Philosophy, and Alchemy.
His works
include Korakkar Malai Vagatam (Korakkar's Mountain
Medicines), Malai Vaakadam, Korakkar
Vaippu, Kaalamegam, Marali Varadham, Nilaiyodukam, Chandhira
Regai Nool, and many more. Korakkar has predicted the future events and written
in Chandhira Regai Nool. One of such events predicted by him was that Bogar
will born again in the world when people lose their faith in god. Gorakkar
Siddhar attained Jeeva Samadhi here in Vadakku Poigainallur. Since many Siddhars worshipped and attained Mukthi, this place
is also called as Siddasramam.

Railway Station, 4.5 Kms from Nagapattinam Old Bus Stand, 5 Kms from Nagapattinam,
6 Kms from Nagapattinam New Bus Stand, 7 Kms from Velankanni and 149 Kms from Trichy
Airport. The Temple is situated on Nagapattinam Old Bus Stand to Velankanni
Route via Akkaraipettai. The Temple is situated on road side in North
Poigainallur.
