Vilvaneswarar Temple, Veppur, Virudhachalam, Cuddalore
Vilvaneswarar Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Veppur Village in Virudhachalam
Taluk in Cuddalore District of Tamilnadu. The Temple is believed to be 500
years old. Lord Murugan of this Temple is believed to be praised by Arunagiri
Nathar in his Thirupugazh Hymns. Hence this Temple is considered as Thiruppugazh
Temple.
The Temple is a medium sized
temple with entrance on the southern side. The Temple is situated on the banks
of the Lake. Presiding Deity is called as Vilvaneswarar. He is housed in the
form of Lingam and is facing east. Vinayagar, Dakshinamoorthy, Vishnu, Brahma
and Durga are the Koshta Idols located around sanctum walls.
Mother is called as
Brahannayaki. She is housed in a separate shrine and is facing east. Sthala
Vriksham is Vanni Tree, situated opposite to Mother Shrine. Navagrahas are
located below the Vanni Tree. There are separate Nandhi Mandapams for Lord and
Mother. There are shrines for Vinai Theerkum Maha Ganapathy and Lord Murugan in
the Temple premises.
The Temple is located at about
500 meters from Veppur Bus Stop, 20 Kms from Tittagudi, 24 Kms from Virudhachalam,
25 Kms from Tholudur, 26 Kms from Virudhachalam Railway Station, 28 Kms from Pennadam,
87 Kms from Cuddalore, 107 Kms from Trichy Airport and 212 Kms from Chennai
Airport. The Temple is situated on Chennai – Trichy National Highway near
Veppur Junction.
Location
