Prithveeswarar Temple, Veliagaram, Thiruvallur
Prithveeswarar Temple is a
Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Veliagaram Village near
Pallipattu in Thiruvallur District of Tamil Nadu. This temple is situated on
Andhra Pradesh – Tamil Nadu border. Presiding
Deity is called as Prithveeswarar
and Mother is called as Bhuvaneswari. The Temple was built by Raja Simha
Pallava. Saint Arunagirinathar had sung
about Lord Murugan of this Temple in his Thirupugazh Hymns.

Temple
The Temple is east facing.
There is no Rajagopuram only entrance. Vahana Mandapam is in dilapidated
condition. Bali Peedam and Nadhi can be found facing the sanctum. There is no
Dwaja Sthambam in this Temple. Presiding Deity is called
as Prithveeswarar. He is housed
in the sanctum. Sanctum is of Gaja Brustha Style. Linga is having 16 stripes on
its body. This type of Lingam is called as Dhara Lingam or Shodasa Lingam.
Mother is called as Bhuvaneswari. Mother Shrine is located on the northern side of the prakaram. Her
shrine is facing south. There is no Vimanam over her shrine. She is about 4
feet high. She is in standing posture holding Pasam and Angusam. There is a
shrine for Velli Vinayagar in the south west corner of the prakaram.
There is a big idol of
Vinayaga can be found in the Maha Mandapam. Also, Idol of Lord Murugan seated
on his peacock vehicle can be found in the Maha Mandapam. He is having 12 hands
holding various weapons. Kannappa Nayanar holding arrows can be found to the
right side of Murugan Idol. Navagraha Shrine can be found in the southern side
of this Mandapam.
Utsava Idols of Vinayaga,
Somaskandar, Chandikeswarar, Mother, Lord Vijaya Raghava Perumal along with his
consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi can be found in the Artha Mandapam. There is a
shrine for Lord Murugan behind the sanctum. There is no Vimanam over this
shrine. Lord Murugan is about 3 feet tall and he is in standing posture. He is
having single face with four hands. He is accompanied by his consorts Valli and
Deivanai. His Vehicle, Peacock can be found behind Lord Murugan.
