Varadaraja Perumal Temple, Sithalapakkam, Chennai
Varadaraja
Perumal Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located at Sithalapakkam
near to Tambaram in Chennai, capital city of Tamilnadu. This is a very small
temple. Presiding Deity is Varadaraja Perumal along with his consorts Sreedevi
and Bhoodevi. The Temple is of recent construction but the idols of
Varadarajar, Bhoodevi and Sridevi are ancient. These Idols were unearthed some
decades back. All the idols were made of Green Stone (Pachai Kal). It is
believed that idols were sculptured during Pallava Period. The Deepasthamba is
ancient and is made of stone and unlike other temples, it is situated inside
the temple itself.
There
are shrines of Vishwaksenar, Vedanta Desikar, Ramanujar, Sudarsana, Anjaneyar
and Chakkarathalwar in the Temple premises. The Anjaneya is in meditation pose
and near the ground level. This is a unique feature and also cites several
examples of people coming here to mediate near this Anjaneya to fulfil their
desires. The Chakkarathalwar (Prayoga Chakram) here is special with sixteen
hands and in walking posture. The Narasimhar behind is in yoga posture sitting
on top of Adhiseshan. This temple is a Parihara Sthalam for people unable to
get married and for people without children.

Temple is located at about 250 meters from Sithalapakkam Government School Bus
Stop, 4 Kms from Medavakkam, 10 Kms from Tambaram, 12 Kms from Tambaram Railway
Station, 13 Kms from Tambaram Bus Stand, 28 Kms from Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus,
30 Kms from Chennai Central Railway Station, 27 Kms from Egmore Railway Station
and 19 Kms from Chennai Airport.
