Kothanda Ramaswamy Temple, Patteeswaram, Thanjavur

Kothanda Ramaswamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Patteeswaram in Kumbakonam Taluk in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. This Temple is situated close to Patteeswaram Temple. Presiding Deity is called as Kothandarama. He is housed in the sanctum along with Mother Sita, Lakshmana and Anjaneya.

Legends

Lord Rama’s relief from Chaya Hathi Dosham:

After defeating Ravana, it is believed that Rama visited Patteeswaram to liberate him from Chaya Hathi Dosham that had struck him for having killed Vaali striking an arrow from hiding. He installed Shiva Lingam at Patteeswaram Dhenupureeswarar Temple and performed Pooja invoking the blessings of Lord Shiva to liberate himself from Chaya Hathi Dosham. He got relieved from his dosha successfully. Later, Devas arrived here and requested Lord Rama to provide darshan in a Kalyana Kolam at this place.

Pattu Shalia Maharshi:

Sage Shaliar was known as Pattu Shalia Maharshi as he was in the silk weaving trade. Pattu in Tamil means Silk.  Silk weavers always bore a dosha as they had to kill numerous silk worms in their profession. The Sage wanted to protect them from dosha. Hence, he performed a penance here at this Temple. The Lord granted pardon from the sin to the community. He also prayed to the Lord Rama to stay in this place itself so that the weavers could worship him daily.  Lord granted the boons sought by the Rishi and stayed here.
