Parimala Ranganathar Temple, Thiruindalur – The Temple

This temple is facing towards east with five tiered rajagopuram. The temple is completely enclosed within a granite wall. The temple measures 350 feet in length and 230 feet in breadth and has three prakarams. Dwaja Sthambam, Balipeedam and Garuda shrine can be seen immediately after the rajagopuram. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antrala, maha mandapam and mukha mandapam. The sanctum is rectangular in plan to accommodate the reclining posture of Lord Vishnu.



The sanctum enshrines an image of the presiding deity, Parimala Ranganathar. He is an imposing 12 feet long sculpture made of green stone. He is depicted in reclining posture (Veera Sayana). He is facing towards east and is four armed (Chathur Bhuja). Chandran, Yama, Ambarisha. Ganga can be seen at his feet. Surya and Cauvery can be seen near his head. Lord Brahma can be seen emerging from his navel. Idol of Santhana Gopala Krishnan can be seen in the sanctum.



Utsava idol is Maruviniya Mainthan / Sugantha Vana Nathan. The vimana above the sanctum is called as Veda Chakra vimana.  There is a Mother is called as Parimala Ranganayaki / Chandra Sabha Vimochanavalli/ Pundareegavalli. Shrines & idols of Santhana Gopalan, Andal, Chakrathazhwar, Yoga Narasimha, Rama, Anjaneya, Surya, Chandra, Azhwars and Acharyas can be seen in the temple premises. There is a mandapam called Ekadasi Mandapam in the temple premises. Theertham associated with this temple is Indu (Chandra) Pushkarini.
