Parimala Ranganathar Temple, Thiruindalur, Mayiladuthurai

Parimala Ranganathar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in Thiruindalur, an outskirts of Mayiladuthurai Town in Mayiladuthurai Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Parimala Ranganathar / Maruviniya Mainthan / Sugantha Vana Nathan and Mother is called as Parimala Ranganayaki / Chandra Sabha Vimochanavalli/ Pundareegavalli. This temple is considered one among the Pancharanga Kshetrams. The temple follows Pancharathra Agama and Thenkalai tradition.




The temple is revered in Nalayira Divya Prabandham, the 7th – 9th century Vaishnava canon, by Thirumangai Azhwar in eleven verses. The temple is classified as a Divyadesam, the 108 Vishnu temples that are revered in the Vaishnava canon, Nalayira Divya Prabandham. This temple is considered as the place where the Ekadasi Fasting (11th day of full moon or new moon day) gained its special importance. This temple is situated on the northern banks of Cauvery river.

History

The temple is believed to have been built in 6th century CE. The temple extensive patronage from Cholas, Pandyas, Pallavas, Vijayanagara Kingdom and Madurai Nayaks. The temple is currently maintained by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Institutions Endowment Board of Government of Tamilnadu.

The temple remains open from 06.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and 05.00 p.m. and 08.30 p.m.

Chithirai Tamil New Year (Apr 14), 10 days Aadi Pooram (Jul-Aug), Purattasi Navaratri (Sep-Oct), 10 days Aipasi Thula Mahotsavam (Oct-Nov), Thiru Karthigai (Nov-Dec), 10 days Margazhi Vaikunda Ekadasi (Dec-Jan), Thai Pongal (Jan-Feb), Masi Magam (Feb-Mar) and Panguni Brahmotsavam (Mar-Apr) are the festivals celebrated here. It is believed that a bath in the Cauvery here during Aipasi is said to be more sacred than bathing at the Ganges.

Prayers

As the temple is noted for its Ekadasi importance, it is suggested that those desirous of undertaking the fasting, may start the practice from this temple. Devotees worship Santhana Gopalan in this temple for child boon. Those who wish for girl child worship Lord Vishnu here. Devotees worship here to get relief from the sins committed by them and their forefathers.

The temple is located at about 2 Kms from Mayiladuthurai, 3 Kms from Mayiladuthurai Bus Stand, 3.5 Kms from Mayiladuthurai Junction Railway Station, 3.5 Kms from Nidur, 14 Kms from Manalmedu, 36 Kms from Kumbakonam and 137 Kms from Trichy Airport. The temple is situated on Mayiladuthurai to Manalmedu route. Buses going towards Nidur and Manalmedu from Mayiladuthurai stops at this temple.
