Adi Kumbeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vinayaga located in Shenbagapuram Village near Mohanur in Kilvelur Taluk in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Lord Vinayaga of this temple is called as Adi Kumbeswarar in the name of his father, Lord Shiva. This temple is believed to be around 500 years old.

The Temple
This Temple is facing towards east. The temple consists
of sanctum and mukha mandapam. The sanctum enshrines the presiding deity,
Vinayaga under the name Adi Kumbeswarar. Lord Vinayaga is a Swayambhu Moorthy
(self-manifested). He is worshipped as Lord Shiva in this temple. The shape of
the Vinayaga in this temple is slightly irregular in this temple.
The vimana over the sanctum has stucco images of Lord Shiva
on the right, Lord Vishnu on the back and Lord Brahma on the left. Sthala
Vriksham of this Temple is Arasu and Neem trees. An idol of Naga can be seen
below the Arasu Tree. There is a unique lamp in the form of dancing snake in
front of this Naga idol. Devotees having sarpa dosha offer special prayers in
this shrine.

The temple remains open from 06.00 AM to 12.30 PM and 04.00
PM and 08.00 PM.
Festivals
Vinayaka Chathurthi and Tirukarthikai are the festivals
celebrated in the temple.
Prayers
Special Ekadasa Rudra Japam is performed in this temple
during the waxing moon period (Sukla Paksha or Valar Pirai) on the Poosam star
in the month of Aani (Jun-Jul). Eleven (Ekadasam means eleven in Sanskrit)
priests chant Shri Rudram eleven times during this Rudra Japam. It is said that
listening to this Ekadasa Rudra Japam would cleanse the devotees from all his
sins. Devotees pray here for relief from their sins and seek mental
peace.

Connectivity
The temple is located at about 10 Kms from Kilvelur
Railway Station, 11 Kms from Kilvelur, 15 Kms from Katchanam, 20 Kms from
Thiruvarur, 20 Kms from Nagapattinam, 26 Kms from Thiruvarur Bus Stand and 144
Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated at about 3 Kms from Killukudi
on the Kilvelur to Katchanam route. Frequent buses are not available to reach
this temple from Thiruvarur and Kilvelur.
