Sundareswarar Temple, Mela Pazhuvur, Ariyalur
Sundareswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Mela Pazhuvur (Melapalur) Village in Ariyalur Taluk in Ariyalur District of Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Sundareswarar and Mother is called as Meenakshi. This temple is administrated by the Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Department Tamilnadu.










Legends
Jamadagni Rishi worshipped Lord Shiva here:
According to legends, Jamadagni Rishi, father of Sage Parasurama, worshipped here. Idol of Jamadagni Rishi can be found in the prakaram facing west with his head surrounded by flames. All the three temples in Pazhuvur area are said to have been worshipped by Sage Jamadagni.

Once, Indra was undergoing penance in Madurai in order to get relief from his sins, A divine voice instructed him to visit this temple and worship him to get relief from his sins. As instructed, he came here and got rid of his sins.
Sage Parasurama got relief from the sin of killing his mother here:
Sage Parasurama got relief from the sin of killing his mother by worshipping Lord Shiva of this Temple. All the three temples in Pazhuvur area are said to have been worshipped by Sage Parasurama.

The temple remains open from 07.00 AM to 11.00 AM and 05.00 PM to 07.00 PM.
Prayers
It was believed that by worshiping Lord Shiva of this temple will remove the curse of Mother and will be bestowed with child boon by worshiping Jyestha Devi.

Mela Pazhuvur is located in the Trichy – Ariyalur route leading to the ancient Chola capital of Gangaikonda Cholapuram.
