Manickavannar Temple, Thiruvalaputhur, Mayiladuthurai

Manickavannar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Thiruvalaputhur Village in Mayiladuthurai Taluk in Mayiladuthurai District in Tamil Nadu. Presiding deity is called as Manikka Vannar / Rathnapureeswarar and Mother is called as Brahma Kunthalambigai / Vandamar Poonguzhali. The temple is situated on the southern banks of Kollidam River.


This Temple is considered as one of the shrines of the 276 Paadal Petra Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Thevaram hymns. This Temple is the 83rd Devara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 29th sthalam on the north side of river Cauvery in Chozha Nadu. This temple is under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of Government of Tamil Nadu (HR&CE).

Temple Opening Time

The temple remains open from 07.30 AM to 11.30 AM and from 04.30 PM to 08.00 PM.

Festivals

Vaikasi Visakam Brahmotsavam (May-Jun), Aavani Vinayakar Chaturthi (Aug-Sep), Purattasi Navaratri (Sep-Oct), Thiru Karthikai (Nov-Dec), Masi Maha Shivrathri (Feb-Mar), Margazhi Thiruvadhirai (Dec-Jan) and Panguni Uthiram (Mar-Apr) are the festivals celebrated in the temple. Special Pooja is performed to Goddess Durga on all Poornima (full moon days).

The Temple is located at about 11 Kms from Vaitheeswarankovil Railway Station, 12 Kms from Vaitheeswarankovil, 14 Kms from Mayiladuthurai Old Bus Stand, 14 Kms from Mayiladuthurai New Bus Stand, 15 Kms from Mayiladuthurai Junction Railway Station, 16 Kms from Mayiladuthurai, 20 Kms from Sirkazhi, 44 Kms from Kumbakonam and 133 Kms from Trichy Airport. The Temple is situated on Sirkazhi to Kumbakonam Route. This temple is situated on the Vaitheeswarankovil  to Thiruppanandal bus route, after Ilanthoppu. Mayiladuthurai to Manalmedu bus passes through this place.
