Soleeswarar Temple, Perambakkam – The Temple

Soleeswarar Temple, Perambakkam – The Temple
The temple is situated at the northeast part of the village Perambakkam and is south facing. There is no Rajagopuram and only there is an entrance arch. This Temple is reputed to be a Parihara Sthalam for nervous disorders. Presiding Deity is called as Soleeswarar. Lord is Swayambu Linga. He is housed in the sanctum facing south. The beautiful Lingam stands around three feet tall including the Avudaiyar. Nerve like patterns are found all over the Linga and such patterns are clearly seen during the milk and Vibhuti (holy ash) Abhishekam.

The Lingam here is not touched by anyone, including the Priest- these Lingams are called Theenda Thirumeni. The Abhishekams are done without touching the Linga and the Cloth (Vastra) is wrapped around the Lingam and Pooja is offered. Vinayaga, Dhakshinamoorthy, Durga, Brahma and Lingothbavar are the Koshta Idols located around the sanctum walls.

Mother is called as Kamakshi. Her shrine is facing south and is situated in Mahamandapam, close to the sanctum. Mother Idol is about around four feet in size. Mother is situated to the left of the Lord’s Sanctum. She stands here exuding divine beauty and compassion. There is something unique about this deity. The sculptor has left a small space around her feet to facilitate adorning them with anklets.

Shrines for Sakthi Vinayagar and Kasi Viswanathar can be seen on the left side after entering the Temple. There is a shrine for Lord Muruga with Valli & Devasena on the west side of the Temple. There is a shrine for Lord Ayyapan on the east side of the Temple. As in Sabarimala the deity is made of a mixture of five metals. There are shrines of Navagrahas, Nagas, Bairavar, Navagrahas, Suryan, Chandran and Pradhosha Lingam in the Temple premises. Sthala Viruksham of this temple is Vilvam Tree.
