Moolanathaswamy Temple, Thenkarai, Sholavandan, Madurai
Moolanathaswamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Thenkarai Village near Sholavandan Town in Madurai District of Tamilnadu. Presiding Deity is called as Moolanathaswamy and Mother is called as Akilandeswari. The Temple is situated on the opposite side of Sholavandan on the Southern banks of the Vaigai River. The Temple construction is dated to 946-966 CE during the reign of Cholan Thalai Konda Veerapandian. Thenkarai Village was constructed in a Swasthik shape with Moolanathaswamy Temple in the centre.

Festivals
Vaikasi Visakam, Aani Uthiram, Adi Pooram, Vinayaka Chathurthi, Navarathri, Kandha Sasti, Karthika Somavaram, Tirukarthikai, Thiruvadirai in Margazhi month, Ashtami in Margazhi, Shivarathri, Masi Maham and Panguni Uthiram festivals are celebrated in this Temple every year.

The Temple is located at about 1 Kms from Sholavandan Railway Feeder Road Bus Stop, 2 Kms from Sholavandan Railway Station, 6 Kms from Thiruvedagam, 10 Kms from Vadipatti, 26 Kms from Madurai, 25 Kms from Madurai Railway Junction, 25 Kms from Madurai Periyar Bus Stand, 29 Kms from Madurai Mattuthavani Integrated Bus Terminus and 36 Kms from Madurai Airport. Nellai Express from Chennai stops at Sholavandan station (4.45 AM Arrival). There are buses frequently available to Sholavandan from Periyar Bus stand in Madurai.
