Dandeeswarar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located at Velachery, well-known locality of Chennai City in Tamil Nadu. Presiding Deity is called as Dandeeswarar and Mother is called as Karunambikai. The temple was built during the Pallava reign and was repaired and rebuilt during the Chola reign. The temple complex consists of a main temple complex and a tank. This temple is administered by the HR & CE Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. This ancient temple is located on the Velachery Road. Though along the main road, the temple has a very calm ambience and one can feel the divine vibrations here.

Festivals
Chitra Poornima in April-May; Aadi month Sundays in July-August; Shivarathri in February-March and Aipasi Annabishekam in October-November are the festivals celebrated in the temple. Pradoshams, Sashti, Kirthikai and Navarathri are observed with piety. The vahanas of Adhikara Nandhi, mouse and peacock are attractive and carry the deities during festivals.
Prayers
Devotees pray here for longevity and to regain positions lost. As this is the place where Yama the God of Death got back his danda, many people celebrate their 60th / 80th birthday at this temple by offering their prayers and performing longevity homas. Virgins pray to Saptha Kannikas (seven virgins) and Lord Veerabhadra for a happy life. Realizing their wishes, devotes perform abishekam to Lord, Mother and Lord Veerabhadra and offer vastras.

The Temple is located in Velachery, Chennai on the way from Saidapet towards Pallikaranai. Lot of Town buses available from various parts of Chennai City to Velachery and the bus stop is Gandhi Road or Dhandeeswaram bus stop between Gurunanak College and Vijaya Nagar Bus Terminus. The temple is located in the Rajbhavan-Vijayanagar Bus stand road, about 1.5 Kms from the Vijayanagar Bus Stand. Those coming from southern district may get down either at Tambaram or Guindy stations. There are bus facilities from these places to the temple. Nearest Airport is Chennai Airport.
